Nice...Laserdisc may be outclassed now in this era of 4K DCP, but it's definitely the superior format to DVD when done right.

non-affiliate link tech plug:   The Sandisk (oops) Extreme USB 3 stick uses a low end SSD controller, and wipes the floor with almost every other stick if you want to run an OS off it.

Welcome.  Specificially you want SDCZ80-0xxG-A46, in case they decide to shuffle controllers.   Here's a group review that shows how much better it's random write perf is:  http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/usb-3.0-thumb-drive-review,3477-3.html

Related to the Laserdisc capture project, I updated cxadc, a raw ADC video capture card driver for the Conexant CX2388x chip to work with Linux 3.x.  Until today I was using it in a 32-bit VM, but I just got it to work under 64-bit Linux in 3.11.

Basically it's the cheapest* way to get ~35MB/sec 8-bit ADC captures on Linux.  (* - assuming you find a card :) ) and if you're interested in wider band SDR, this is the beginning of a possible solution...
cxadc-linux3 - CX2388x direct ADC capture driver, updated for Linux 3.x and 64-bit
