Long-time visitors to The Archaeology of Tomb Raider will probably be familiar with Tomb Raider fan Jean Michel Thery’s stunning hand-made dioramas.

Over the years, he’s made models of Egyptian tombs and Mesoamerican pyramids, created an amazingly detailed diorama of an Angkorian temple similar to those seen in The Last Revelation and the first Tomb Raider film, and won an award for his replica of the “Well of Tears” challenge tomb from Tomb Raider 2013.

And now Jean Michel has been kind enough to share some photos of his latest creation with us!

In the 2006 game Tomb Raider: Legend, Lara Croft travels across the globe in search of pieces of the mythical Excalibur, visiting such places as a military base in Kazakhstan, the ruins of Tiwanaku in Bolivia, an ancient temple in the Ghanaian rainforest, and an abandoned monastery in Nepal.

But did you know that the West African nation of Mali was almost a stop on Lara’s grand tour?

In Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara Croft explores a hidden oasis in Syria and a centuries-old settlement in Siberia in her quest to uncover the lost city of Kitezh and the secrets that lie within.

Along the way, you. the gamer, will come across countless Byzantine murals, awe-inspiring ruins, and a wealth of ancient artefacts, not to mention wild animals, mercenary soldiers, and troubled villagers. And if you’d like to take a closer look at the characters and locations that appear in the game, Titan Books’ art book may be the book for you.

(Does not contain spoilers) In her quest to find Kitezh in the frozen hinterlands of Siberia, Lara Croft stumbles upon the remains of the ancient armies and intrepid explorers who have tried (and failed) to conquer this once-glorious and remote city.

One of the artefacts Lara discovers throughout the course of the game is a battle-damaged Mongolian tug, a relic of a failed Mongol invasion in the 13th century according to both the in-game lore and the Russian legend that inspired Ms Croft’s latest adventure.
