My husband and I ate lunch there today and we liked the place. Seating is tight, but its a small space so that is unavoidable. And, since the food is great there were lots of customers to seat! !! Prices are great! Less than a meal deal at a fast food place! Service, well, I can agree it wasn't the best of attitudes, but again, the place was packed and staff really didn't have time to sit around and chit-chat with me! (cant please everyone) So, all the other reviews that are negative on the space and the service... perhaps one should really look at the reasoning around to see why things are the way they were. It cant be that bad, the place was packed full and non stop customers continued to arrive :) Give it a try and let the little things go! ENJOY!!

I've eaten it twice and I had a good time both times. The atmosphere is cozy and the servers have been super friendly. I will definitely eat here again!

Great atmosphere and amazing food. Being from the South and going to some BBQ competitions and shacks throughout Texas, I must say that this place does its name and heritage justice. A MUST GO if you are in or around Eugene.

My name is Randy. I wish to comment on a not so great visit to your restaurant on Friday 8/29/2014. My and myself do not dine out much but chose to eat at Papa Souls. This was the second time we had been there. The food and service were both great on our first visit. On Friday we were seated inside as there were no available tables outside, not a problem. We were met by a waitress and ordered our dinner and drinks. The waitress brought us a carafe of room temperature water which was kind of odd. After we had sat there for 10 minutes three people were seated right next us ( table separation of 12 to 18 inches ) kinda uncomfortable. I am not a smoker and do not discriminate against those who do but these people smelled really bad of cigarettes. I ask the waitress if we could move to another table close by and preferably one outside she said when one becomes available. I felt like I just asked her to jump in front of a bus. To make long story short we sat and watched four different tables served their meals that were seated after my wife and I our meals, and three different groups seated outside, two of them were people that just walked in and the other were the people seated next us and the reason we moved. They were seated outside and also were eating there dinner when we had enough and decided to leave. At no time during our 30 to 45 minute wait did anyone come to our table to ask how we were doing or to explain why we were still waiting to eat. I am not a complainer and do not mind waiting if I am told that because the meal that was ordered takes longer. My wife and I have been married over 27 years and have never walked out of a restaurant without eating. We paid for our two drinks and at that time we were told, not by our waitress but by a very nice young lady working there that because my wife ordered chicken and waffles that it takes longer. 30 + minutes after being there we were told. I apologize for the wasted food that was made for us. I feel selfish for being impatient and knowing there are people right out side your doors that are hungry and would have enjoyed a meal no matter how long the wait. If only we were not ignored. I just thought you should know.
