Dr. Peer recently gave a presentation to the National Orthopaedic Nurses Association. He discussed advancements in Knee Replacement and “Enhanced Recovery after Surgery”. Enhanced recovery is a series of strategies to improve the post-operative process and involves multiple different ways to improve both the process of knee replacement and the outcome. Dr. Peer reviewed current best practices in medication and pain relief strategies, nursing interventions, physical modalities and physical therapy. He has a particular interest in utilizing multiple medications in low doses to maximize pain relief with minimal side effects and notes that many patients leave the Operating Room with no pain at all. One of Dr. Peer’s research interests is in developing systems to custom tailor a patient’s surgical and post-operative strategy to maximize the benefit of Knee Replacement which is already one of the most successful medical interventions ever developed. Dr. Peer is Board Certified and holds a Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He has a particular interest in knee and shoulder replacement surgery.
