Newport Dawn

After many months away, a recent morning found me along the Rhode Island coast. There is nothing in the world that feels so right

"Sunrise Along the Cliff Walk"

After a 4 long months hiatus, my camera and I returned to the Rhode Island coastline to enjoy a sunrise.

Enjoy,
Mike

My Church

No matter how crazy my world gets, spending a little time out in nature always brings peace and clarity. The sounds of the rushing water, the wind rustling the leaves on the trees. The smell of spring in the air.

On the morning that I photographed this scene, the trails were empty. The forecast called for overcast skies and rain developing as the day progressed. However, the morning was calm and quiet.

I spent hours that day exploring Sabbaday Falls, and found that the river both above and below the falls were very photogenic.

Enjoy!

The view from on top of Mount Washington. It was 80 degrees at the base of the mountain, but on top it was only 40 degrees with a wind chill that made it feel even colder. However, the view was breathtaking!

Enjoy,
Mike

Avalanche Falls

Another one of the beautiful waterfalls that I was fortunate to visit on my recent trip to New Hampshire.

This is Avalanche Falls in Franconia Notch State Park, with drop of 25 feet it is at the top of the Flume Gorge.

Enjoy,
Mike

As I drove westward on the Kancamagus Highway one afternoon I was stunned to see giant storm clouds appearing on the other side of the mountains ahead of me.

As I reached the crest of Mount Kancmagus at over 2800 feet the view to the towns of Woodstock and Lincoln were breathtaking! I quickly pulled into the Pemigewasset Overlook parking area.

The storm was moving in from the south and I was in a prime position to watch it develop from my mountain top perch. I grabbed a bite to eat from my lunch box and waited for the scene to develop.

In less then an hour the storm had arrived. I knew from the moment that I crested the peak that this would be done in black and white.

Enjoy!

Continuing my play with a telephoto lens to extract intimate scenes from the larger landscape, I became fascinated by the zig zag pattern the water made as it traveled on it journey down a mountain stream. This was shot at 70 mm

Enjoy!

This week I decided to try something a little different with my photography. Rather then always use my wide angle lens for my landscapes I decided to try the opposite. I spent a lot of time using my 70-200, and really tried to create images that somehow seemed more intimate. Definitely a challenge to get started, but it became easier as the week progressed. What do you think?

Here is one of my early attempts, this is the upper basin at Sabbaday Falls in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Took a day of rest today! Starting going through the photographs from the trip, and liked this shot from Sabbaday Falls. I went early in the morning on a cloudy overcast day, and for the most part had the place to myself. There is nothing as peaceful and relaxing as getting out in nature and enjoying the world around us.
