Received this notification today when opening Google+ :

Un problème relatif à votre profil Google+ a été détecté.

It appears that the name you entered doesn’t comply with our Names Policy. The Names Policy requires that you use the name that you are commonly referred to in real life in your profile.

what's "real life" ? This seems to imply that there's another kind of life out there, that isn't real. Anyway, there are currently more people who refer to me as "Wood" than by any other name.

Nicknames, maiden names, and so on, should be entered in the Other Names section of the profile. Profiles are currently limited to individuals; we will be launching a profile for businesses and other entities later this year.If you do not edit your name to comply with the Names Policy by 23 août 2011, your profile will be suspended: you will not be able to make full use Google services that require an active profile, such as Google+, Buzz, Reader and Picasa.

Does that mean there are actually people out there who use Google Buzz ? Seriously, though, I might need to look for an alternative to Google reader

This will not prevent you from using other Google services, like Gmail. We understand that Google+ and it’s Names Policy may not be for everyone at this time.

For pity's sake, Google, I'm not a native English speaker and even I know the difference between "its" and "it's" !
Also, you're right, it's not for everyone. For example, it's not for :
-Teenagers who identify as members of the LGBT community
- Individuals whose spouses or partners work for the government
- Survivors of domestic abuse
- Victims of stalking and/or harrassments
- Political activists in countries where freedom of speech is not enforced
- High school teachers who wish to maintain a distance from their students
- the list goes on, these are just the ones I can think of on the top of my head

We would hate to see you go, but if you choose to leave, make a copy of your Google+ data first. Then, click here to leave Google+

To be honest, I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this. I've been enjoying playing with this new toy, Google+ so maybe I'll find a way not to get suspended. We'll see.

Oh, and by the way, Google Person who sent me this notice, what's YOUR "real name" ?
