The two new ways to correct gummy smiles are either raising the upper front teeth or lowering the lip. If you have excess gum tissue covering your teeth, a simple recontouring procedure can be performed to help reveal a better portion of the front teeth. Corrective jaw or orthognathic surgery is performed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons in coordination with a patient’s orthodontist. It is performed to correct a wide range of minor and major skeletal and dental irregularities, including the misalignment of jaws and teeth. If misaligned jaws and teeth are treated, it can improve your chewing, speaking and breathing.
