Stephen Webb & team have lead an effort to bring Unity 8 to Ubuntu 14.04, which was done in parallel of other great work the team has landed for Ubuntu 14.0

It defiantly won't be the start screen was a failed attempt at recreating unity dash and for the desktop the dash should always be this scalable in unobtrusive pop up 

Also unity8 won't be default in the lts it's going to have further development which is good because Linux hasn't been able to do the hybrid design wise gnome shell comes close and KDE seamed to do well with plasma active but the assets used for it where horrible looking
