Pokemon Go is Far More Than A Game

Nintendo (and Google) will have massive data from all of the wonderful outdoor, active and social play of Pokemon Go. For instance, within weeks they will have accumulated what amounts to a huge passive restaurant review system. Watch out Yelp! This team won’t know what people would write in a restaurant review - but they will know what restaurants people actually choose, and choose again, among all the restaurants in a neighborhood. Amazon knows how to recommend what I will likely buy. The Pokemon Go team will have the data to analyze where I and others like me would like to eat.

And here’s the point: Pokemon Go is not just a new game. It’s a new platform. This collective new AR ‘verse is a platform that can support games, events, messaging and commerce. It’s a new day.

A Rose by any other name... Our chickens are named after The Doctor's companions. Amy Pond is a redhead.

It's a great way to end the year. My Wired magazine article on how we should let robots take over our jobs earned a "year's best magazine article" shoutout by New York Times' David Brooks.

I love the TED video E-Patient Dave references here -- important to see -- and applying this idea to health is a powerful glimpse of the already-arriving future
