I am a user of a GPS-assisted navigation device since 2005. Back then, it is a GPSnav app installed in a Windows CE (Smartphone) device called Garmin Mobile XT with a crowdsourced map provided by Roadguide PH. The phone is placed on the vehicle's dashboard within the line-of-sight of the driver for easy reference while driving. 12 years later, with multitudes of other navigation apps and devices have flourished, I never had undergone in a vehicular accident caused by a GPS device on the dashboard. In fact the GPS device has helped me reach destinations even unknown to me. It assisted me on not getting into unnecessary and dangerous swerves and sudden turns just because I missed a U-turn slot or a road exit. It made my driving safer, more accurate, and saved money through fuel-efficient driving.

It is just unfortunate that the recent IRR for RA10913 has lost its way, jumping the essence of the Anti-Distracted Driving Act to levels beyond of what is supposed to accomplish: Safer roads by eliminating distracted drivers. Placing navigation systems away from the line-of-sight gives drivers extra time to move one's eyes away from the road to refer to a "misplaced" navigation device screen, endangering the lives of people more, instead of saving it.

As a mapping advocate, a producer of navigation maps for the Philippines through Schadow1 Expeditions, and a long-time user of GPSNav devices; it is imperative that this message be aired. The Department of Transportation - DOTr Philippines must realize the erroneous tenets in the IRR for RA10913 and correct it the soonest possible time. #mapPHL #travelPH #Schadow1Expeditions
