Seattle Dreaming
The money-shot view from Kerry Park.

I received a little inspiration to sift through the photo albums this morning, and in advance of an upcoming trip back to the Seattle area, I realized that this version of the skyline from my last trip never made it to the web.

This was one of those rare days of clarity... a rare cloudless, hazeless evening in Seattle...  Truly a gift I'll never forget.

Technical Details:
Canon 5D Mk III
Canon EF 70-300mm f/4 lens at 120mm.
f/20, 2" at ISO 100

Albums managed in +digiKam on Linux, raw processed in +darktable , final processing in +GIMP.  100% open source workflow.

Midnight Train
Given enough time and persistence, we may find light, even in the dark.

This is a long exposure (152 seconds) over Canyon Lake in the Four Peaks wilderness in Arizona... I remember this night vividly. We were just coming back from Dinner at Jason's Deli, December 26, 2012. Another great night with a great family and loved one I miss so much. The full moon had risen, and the clouds above promised to be playfully dancing in the sky for a few more hours.

I jumped out of the car, grabbed my camera gear and raced off into the wilderness for the night. I spent hours playing in the night air, watching as the clouds caressed the sky in passing... reveling in the knowledge that, as rough as the water before me may be... time averages out most things, leaving something to reflect upon.

I dug many years back to find this photo. It has always been one on my mind, I reflect on this photo and that night often, and I haven't shared it with many. This was a better time. A better place. A time where I had my feet on the ground, and I was passionate about... just about everything.

Time to stop repeating so many of the recent mistakes, and start walking down different roads. The sunrise is coming.

Crystalline Hedgehog

Any time you find yourself in a new location be thankful you brought your macro lens and then raid the shelves for any interesting trinket you can find... play with the light... feel free to push the pixels hard in post processing... and enjoy the results...  This is, after all, supposed to be fun!

The Mexican
A face of angst among paper dolls.

This old, hand crafted Mexican paper doll truly caught my eye in a way that few other objects do... I'm simply amazed at the level of detail and craftsmanship in these dolls.

Getting it done, out on a long fully loaded run in the mountains with my future marine of a son. Miles out... dark dark wilderness sprint back. Not something I'd advise... but we did it. Pinnacles trail, lake arrowhead, ca. Galaxy S5 capturing my canon 5D Mk III.

Good times.

Guiding Light
Direction in the Darkness

Ethereal seas and the moon-lit night, with the Makapu'u lighthouse shining in the distance. It has been a while since I've dug through my photos, so today I took the time to play with one from Hawaii (not from my most recent trip...). Through the course of this endeavor, I've have found that 1) I have another 20GB of photos that are corrupted (bad file transfer I didn't catch...), and that my laptop hard drive is finally full :)

I guess the next week will be spent recovering data, and cleaning up!

We've all a road to travel. Some are paved in gold and graced by the loathing masses, while others are mired in the harshness of the seasons... solitary, desolate and isolated.

Whichever the case may be, there is no choice but to walk that road before you. Even when the landscape is barren and cold, when the earth underfoot is beaten, tainted, weak and infirm... there is no choice but forward.

Ever forward. Ever forward.

Without doubt the road will stain you. There is no traversing any of our paths with purity intact. With or without our consent we will collect indelible marks of travels past... a testament to perseverance with graceful scars of our every fall.

So carry on, walking the road before you, making each stretch merely the road behind you. For greatness lies ahead as it has been past. Trial awaits around the next bend, as it has been past. This is the road travelled and each step underfoot is as it has been past... a moment lived or wasted. A moment you alone shall own.

Enjoy the journey, mud, scars and all. These moments are yours and you own the road. But delay not... Tick, tock, tick, tock... the unstoppable heartbeat of time is your only nemesis.
