Seven Characteristics That Make a Boy a Man

The transition from boyhood to becoming a man doesn’t happen automatically or overnight. Experiences, relationships, and challenges faced along the way shape each of us into unique individuals. And all of these factors help a boy turn into a man.

While most males learn and grow on this journey, others do not. How a boy responds to the adversity along the way will determine if he matures or gets lost in an arrested development. Some males learn from their mistakes, seek wisdom from older adults and take the challenges that come at them head on.

Take a look at these seven characteristics that differentiate a man from a boy in the below articles I wrote for +The Good Men Project.

The next time you get angry, rather than letting someone have it, take a minute to calm down and then explain what and why you're feeling instead. Seeking solutions, rather than creating arguments is good for us.

Am I in a Relationship with a Narcissist?

It is becoming pretty common to hear people use the negative label of narcissist to describe an ever-increasing number of people - from Millennials, to presidential candidates, or an annoying boss. And more and more people are thinking that they're in a relationship with a narcissist too.

At Guy Stuff we hear from thousands of people every day who are trying to understand what's wrong with their partner. Why do they do what they do? Why do they treat me (the person they say they love) the way they do? One explanation that we regularly hear is, "He is a narcissist." Read more in the article below about how to determine if you really know one or not.

Have you ever thought about doing a reading challenge? In keeping with the themes of disconnecting from our electronics and bettering ourselves, reading is a great way to do both. Aside from the obvious benefits like gaining knowledge and reducing our screen time, reading can also reduce stress, help us relax, and be a great way to connect with your SO by reading to each other. Rather than a list of titles, here is a list of genres to try. Which one could you try first?

5 Ways To Bounce Back From A Big Mistake

Everyone makes mistakes. The recent mistakes in the media with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announcing the wrong movie for the Best Picture at the 2017 Oscars and Steve Harvey’s slip-up when he said the wrong name for Miss Universe 2015 are reminders that no one is perfect.

Some mistakes are easier to move past while others will go on to live forever. Whether your mistake is huge or just a tiny error, here are five ways I wrote for +Dumb Little Man that can help you with overcoming mistakes.

7 Ways To Help Your Kids Get Through Divorce

Divorce can be a messy, heartbreaking process for more than just the spouses. Families, children, homes, and even daily routines are disrupted and affected when two people part ways permanently.

Sometimes parents put off divorce for the sake of their children. They don’t want a broken family or to put their kids through the emotional stress that divorce can bring. While I don’t encourage divorce, sometimes divorce is what people choose to address the problems in a marriage.

Below is an article I wrote for +The Huffington Post that has 7 tips to follow to minimize the negative impact of divorce on kids. If you're in a divorce or considering one, please read them (or pass them along to some who is).

When someone keeps treating us poorly we need to stop thinking about 'why' they do it and instead focus on the choice we're making. When we allow the behavior to continue, we’re actually saying it's okay. We don’t have to allow people to treat us in any way we don’t feel comfortable with. It may require some uncomfortable action on our part, but ultimately, it’s our choice.
