You can now enrol for the PhD courses of 2017-2018. The Graduate School offers a once again expanded programme, which has developed from 10 courses some years ago, to now over 40. Many new courses have been added, while existing courses and workshops have been updated or extended.

The grant enables the Erasmus Graduate School of Social Sciences and the Humanities (EGSH) to coordinate the Graduate SPIRIT project. The project is a consortium of nine European graduate schools with a similar profile.

The EUR Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) and the Graduate School recently extended their agreement for another five years. The agreement will allow IHS to continue to meets its growing demand for doctoral education for its international PhD programme. For the School the agreement strengthens its ongoing ambition to be a truly international and diverse community.

Obtaining a Veni grant, the maximum amount of which is 250.000 euro, is considered an important step in a scientific career. But how to get started on a NWO Veni grant application? In this introductory workshop, Veni laureate dr. Conrad Heilmann and former Veni committee member Professor Karin Arts will explain all the ins and outs of the review and application procedure.

How do you design an academic poster, and, most importantly, how do you make it stand out from the crowd? In this two day course you will learn about the fundamentals of effective writing and visual communication and how to design your own poster with minimal effort.

Photovoice is an innovative qualitative research method, which asks research participants to capture their experiences through videos or photos. This workshop discusses the methodological background of Photovoice, how it can be employed and the kind of knowledge it can provide. PhD candidates will also think through ethical issues relating to the application of the method.

The annual report gives an overview of the Graduate School's activities and course evaluations in 2016. In addition, it describes the goals for the coming year(s).

The Graduate School is thriving and boards is extremely happy that the four deans of the constituting faculties have acknowledged the Schools achievements by granting it another five years of funding. The decision was based on the self assessment report 2010 - 2016 which is also available on our website (www.egsh.eur.nl/about).

Every year the Graduate School invites its PhD candidates and recent graduates to submit their work for the "Graduate School Award for PhD Excellence". During a festive award ceremony, Graduate School Dean Professor Liesbet van Zoonen and rector magnificus Huibert Pols announced the winners of the 2016 competition.
