so with the help of my "trees of ohio - field guide" i was able to identify i have some ohio buckeye and shagbark hickory in my woods.. a bit surprised about the ohio buckeye honestly

In HS i had to know trees by leaf, twig and bark....
 
thats pretty cool Mike - i didn't have anything like that or if i did i really didn't pay much attention at the time. now that i have a nice observation studio in my back yard though it is getting much more interesting. i'm using these books.. the first one is easier the second one is a lot more scientific about it:
