Cozy spot serving slow-smoked barbecue meats & Southern-style sides in rustic environs.- Google
"Appetizer we got were the fried green tomatoes, they were pretty tasty."
"No regular fries kinda bummed me out since I don't like sweet potato at all."

The best smoked food in town with terrific barbecue sauces. The brisket and the pulled pork are not to be missed. The place is small, so when is busy, there will be a wait. But the space has a fun, old shack feel right in the middle of the Third Ward.

Decided to try the smoke shack for lunch on Halloween, after hearing rave reviews regarding the food there. Both my wife and I ordered the beef brisket sandwiches with mac and cheese. the meat was tasty but luke warm, the bun was gooey, and the bar-be-cue sauce was very average, maybe below average, and the mac and cheese was soup-like and watery with very little flavor. The sandwiches were $13.50 each (The waitress was nice and explained that the sammiches were only 1/3 of a pound) and the mac-w/o-cheese was an extra $2.00. So after a bill (with one soda ordered) arrived at $36.00, I left still very hungry, and my wife wasnt feeling well probably due to the mac w/o cheese. After a $40 lunch for 2, (with tip) and with nothing extra served with the lunch (no pickles, or beans or cole slaw), I obviously decided 100% that I would never be back. IMHO a total rip off and one in which I have had better lunches at Applebees for half the cost. Live and learn, but overall I give this place a zero. (I also used to be a front line cook back in the day and know what a decent lunch should cost, and this place was pathetic at best).

Poor management. Poker was the only thing in on their only TV. I've been countless of times and they never have ribs. I've tried midday still then they don't have them. Never have spotted cow which is a staple for barbeque in Milwaukee let alone the best craft beer in Wisconsin. They clearly hired a decorator to do the interior as its so themed. Staff were also not courteous and the bartender admitted that he was incapable of basic math.

Hi Kevin, I'm sorry that you're having problems connecting to the ribs. 4:45pm daily they come out of the smoker. And your next 1/2 rack is on the house. Just print out this reply. We carry spotted cow daily here, so I'm not sure what's happening there. And yes, Flux design did the interior from a barn that we bought and tore down.

You will have to wait but it's soooo worth it. Sample platter is a winner if it's your first time.

The food was cold. Normally my friend and I would have said something. I couldn't tell you why we didn't. The beans were good. The pulled pork was dry and so was the brisket. I'm sad to say that Dickeys (a chain) is better. I wish the cornbread was warm, it had a good flavor. I love AJ Bombers but this sister restaurant does not live up to my standards.

Went there for my birthday in June. This place had a great atmosphere centered around the Southern Blues genre. Great food great place very busy.

Fun small spot. Though sometimes they run out of food at night. Every experience I've had here was good

The atmosphere is really nice and homey, and the staff was very friendly. Had the brisket sandwich and the burnt ends (special on Weds it seems). Both were very well prepared and had great flavor. The available sides though didn't do a lot for me. I'm a Kansas City native, so I guess that I have certain expectations. No regular fries kinda bummed me out since I don't like sweet potato at all. The beans just had too many peppers for my tastes, but the kettle chips were great. Also, it's a bit pricey. $13+ for a pretty standard brisket sandwich is high in my experience, and the burnt ends were also costly for the serving size. I'll most likely go back, but I really need to figure out a side on their menu that will satisfy me.
