In honor of Black History Month, we’re going behind the scenes at Google to highlight some of the black Googlers who are working on cool projects across the company. Check back each week for more #GoogleSnapshots
of some of the people who make Google great. #GoogleSnapshots: Emmanuel Klu
Emmanuel has a deep love for both traveling and music, which makes us suspect he may have been a wandering bard in a past life. Either way, in his current form he’s a data software engineering maestro who started at Google last year. What’s the coolest thing you get to do every day?
I’m working on research and development for a cloud-based platform that will help business analysts generate reports from multiple sources and forms of data without needing much technical knowledge, saving them tons of time. Ultimately, this could help Google make faster and better decisions, which feels pretty great. Why did you want to work in the tech industry?
Tech is making every other industry better, faster and more efficient. Take transportation—ride-sharing services have made getting from point A to B as simple as a touch of a button on your phone. How would you make the world a better place?
I want to work on projects that improve society and have a direct impact on developing countries. As soon as I’m eligible (I haven’t been at Google long enough), I’d like to be a part of Google Reach, a program where Googlers go on a three-week volunteer project abroad to help people in developing countries with small business consulting and youth mentorship. If you could have any superpower which would you have and why?
Telepathy. It would be cool to communicate my exact thoughts to someone without having to speak, write, or text. What’s the one thing people don’t know about you?
I have some crazy traveling habits—last year I took 23 flights in just three months (only two of which were for work) and even visited Cairo during the uprising! Despite all that, I actually do enjoy being at home...sometimes. If you could be any character in fiction, who would you be?
Jay Gatsby—He’s a complex character but I like his flair and swagger.
