This project looks great! Its a retelling of the story of The Iron Age Irish Hero Cu Chullainn in beautiful illustrations which actually refer to Irish La Tene material culture. They have four days left on this kickstarter.

The Arctic Fire 2013 Movie is finally here! You can download the full version, and pay what you think it's worth. The blade has yet to be found, so you're still in the running! Lots of new clues. If you can guess the name of the blade and where in the world it is hidden, you could win a trip to claim it! If you think we did a good job, your donation in purchasing the video will help us produce more work like this in future. Thanks for your enthusiastic support!

#throwbackthursday Almost a year ago, I reported on spring. I read it now after just digging out from the most brutal storm of the winter, and it's hard to believe that spring will happen this time—
"Winter is a cold beauty. With the skill of a storyteller she holds spring back until the last, until you are desperate for it. And then one day winter lets go, just like that, no fanfare, no howling, just a vernal wind."

Wharram Percy Deserted Medieval Village

text from English Heritage http://bit.ly/1gRekE1:
The most famous and intensively studied of Britain's 3,000 or so deserted medieval villages, Wharram Percy occupies a remote but attractive site in a beautiful Wolds valley. Above the substantial ruins of the church and a recreated fishpond, the outlines of many lost houses are traceable on a grassy plateau. First settled in prehistoric times, Wharram flourished as a village between the 12th and 14th centuries, before final abandonment in about 1500.

---------------

Was quite drizzly and overcast our whole weekend in the North.  I hunted the sun whenever I could, but it was a very elusive target this go around.  We made it up to Hadrian's Wall but I'm not happy with any of my photos - it was spectacular to be there and visit it, but desperately terrible for taking photos.

------

I admit I could have gone the lazy route and just over processed and HDR'd my photos since the sun wasn't playing nice - but I just cannot bring myself to slather it on.  It looks terrible to me and particularly because I generally photograph ancient monuments, it would be even worse.

A short reflection on the wonderful time I had last weekend in Michigan with
M.T. Anderson, Holly Black, Ari Berk, Charles Vess,Charlie Bethel, and Elizabeth-Jane Baldry at the Imagining The Fantastic conference. Also, the snow melted — all at once — when I got home.

"When I had my first chance to work a forge— the smell of the coal, the light of the fire and the idea that I could forge my own sword— it was like finding myself in a story; like walking through a door and finding myself in Middle Earth. I was seventeen and I felt like I had a chance to be a character in a myth, I stepped through that door and I haven’t found the way out again."
