Autumn wedding photography tips:

Although summer may traditionally be the popular season for weddings, autumn on the other hand is probably one of the most photogenic seasons of the year. Photographing a wedding during this season carries an ample of opportunities for capturing desirable backdrops of contrasting colour palettes, misty mornings, fiery sunsets and deciduous trees with their leaves full of rich, warm tones of reds, golds, and browns, coating the ground and blowing in the wind like confetti.

Autumn’s most noticeable feature is its distinctive colour. The abundance of warm tones can make a startling contrast in wedding photos. A fiery background will effortlessly highlight the creamy white, ivory or pale blue wedding dress of the brides.

Like any other season Autumn brings its own challenges for you and your photographer to take in and consider, for instance the limited daylight which gives you less time to play with light and earlier sunsets. To avoid losing soft, natural lighting and missing the golden hour, it’s best to schedule the wedding early in the day preferably before 4.00pm

Another issue to consider is the unexpected weather changes. Cold months have the tendency to get extremely windy and patchy when we least expect it. It’s important to study the location to find ideal spots to shoot to avoid heavy breezes. Or as a backup plan staging the photos indoors, creatively stocked with autumnal flowers and vintage props.
