Great explanation.

I think you missed 2 important ideas in the movie.

First is that it is based on the theory of the technological singularity. There is quite a few recent movies based on this as we are seeing huge advancements in AI. The two popular movies being "Her" and "Transcendence". "Her" having Scarlett Johansson as the voice of the AI. Lucy is unique in that it doesn't involve computing but on a single human's unlocked potential. We like this idea because we like the idea of one human making leaps and bounds. This is just how storytelling has been over the ages. Anyway, that is clearly the main idea being used in the movie.

The second idea is that knowledge is cyclic (complete circle) though time. You can see this when Lucy comes back to complete the circle of knowledge when she becomes Godlike - possessing a knowledge that gives her omnipresence. She extends her hand to Adam.

Popular biblical story is that Adam gained knowledge from Eve. I think Lucy was Eve. This is because she is the first to become Godlike through eating the "fruit of the tree". Lucy is chosen because it's the name given to the oldest known woman, Australopithecus. I think it symbolizes that Eve and Lucy are the same woman through their knowledge that made them Godlike. They were able to transcend time and give this knowledge to Adam.

I don't think Lucifer is Lucy for this reason. Lucifer can not bestow knowledge. Only the tree can - God. This tree itself is knowledge - Godlike. Lucy (Eve) bestowed it upon herself which is symbolized by eating the fruit of the tree. At that moment she became Lucy, Eve of the future, who gave that knowledge back to herself and Adam in the past.

Bro, this runs deeper if you look at it in light of spiritual understanding. Considering that everything is birthed in the spiritual realm, and manifested in the physical realm; the human mind is still drawing an understanding of "Life" in accordance to the different theory dimensions that explain our world today. What I mean is everything from Science to History, points in the direction that there is a God; and the fact that the Author of our faith is mysterious, explains Nihilism. What differentiates all religions or philosophical understanding, in my opinion, is that Muhammad said he was a prophet, Buddha says "He is the one who knows," but only Jesus Christ claimed that "He is the way, the Truth and the Life and that no one comes to the Father except through him" (John 14:6). That statement, in its very essence, is the foundation of the Christian faith that is fortified by the promise in John 3:16. If one was to abide by God, he would have to understand the Paradigm of Love, which is clearly explained in the greatest commandments - "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." - (Matthew 22:36-40). But then driving my point back to what Thandie Newton is saying - "How can you love your neighbour, if you don't know how to love yourself?" To answer that question, you Love yourself the way you love God - unconditionally." Definition of Love - "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)... dua ga a 2 cents!
