+Ann Walker writes: The WEA and other adult education organisations have countless amazing stories about how adult and community learning has changed students’ lives. Sometimes it’s had a knock-on effect on their families and even on their communities. We need to convince more people about the possibilities and the point of adult education to encourage them into their first class. (#firstclass Twitter hashtag anyone?)

We are a democratic, voluntary adult education movement, committed to widening participation and to enabling people to realise their full potential through learning
Introduction

We were founded in 1903.  Since that time, we have existed as a network of people with shared interests and beliefs, and not only as an educational institution.

We have over 80,000 students and learners each year, coming on part-time courses of all kinds. We have over 40,000 members, who have signed up to express their support for the value of adult education and lifelong learning. We have over 2,000 tutors, 300 staff, and more than 1,000 volunteers helping WEA courses to run in towns and villages across the country. We also work with hundreds of partner organisations, including community organisations, other charties, and local and national government.

The WEA's model of adult education is one that hopes to improve peoples' lives and the society we live in. We are a friendly organisation!
