After 6.5 years in Maryland, I"m headed back to NoVA. I've been wanting to get back to NoVA since pretty much the day I took the job in Baltimore. Nothing against Maryland but if I can't be in California, then I'd just rather be in Virginia. While the desire was there, the timing was never quite right. But now, with a new job starting in a week, I'll have a chance to head back to the south!* Not sure yet where I'll be living; that still needs to get worked out. Right now I'm just thinking I have to start packing again. It's a good thing I never fully unpacked from the move six months ago. Planning, it does a lazy body good.

*I joke. Va is not the south, damn it!

For the Marylanders, just in time for Valentine's Day.

This is the best thing I've seen all day. Fascinating.

Packing part of a song about a decaying heartland into a number about a woman’s right to fend off an injurious man and playing that song at a country-music awards show less than a week before a presidential election — wait, before this presidential election — and doing so as an interracial band of outlaw feminist superstars whose patriotism has been, at various times, deemed suspect and whose performance together gets a big ovation anyway must be considered some kind of triumph.

I don't vote to get a sticker but I will admit that I was disappointed to learn that Baltimore City (or, the polling place I was assigned to) was not offering them the last time I voted. I even joked to the guys I'd made "friends" with whole waiting to vote, "Without the sticker how will people know I did my civic duty!?!"

Often people will tell me that their significant other is an introvert like me and that we'd get along. My joke is usually something like, "awesome. We'll read quietly together and have the best time!"

And now, look it, reading parties. How funny.
