Host staff was a little rude and dismissive. Service was phenomenal. Family style Italian at its best, exactly the same as in NYC. We met the executive chef in the afternoon and he also had great local tips as well. Would be five stars if not for the host staff.

I joined 18 friends at Carmine's for a friend's 30th birthday. In order to reserve a private room, we were required to put down a $600 deposit. After dining and paying our bill (majority of which was in cash), we specifically asked the server to remove the deposit and were reassured that this would be no problem. It has been two weeks, and the charge is still on her credit card. Sharoq, the GM at the 7th Street location, has admitted there was a mistake (evidenced by security footage), but refuses to refund the deposit in full. Instead of apologizing, they became increasingly defensive and unhelpful. During his last conversation with my friend, Sharoq became extremely rude, and hung up the phone when my friend asked to speak with his boss. After pursuing the issue further, we contacted Randy Talbot, the Director of Operations at Alicart Group. According to Randy, Carmine's made a mistake, yet since the server had already taken the money home, there was nothing he could do. He also was going to follow-up with the information of his boss, yet never did. The most Carmine's offered to refund us was $318. We are not asking that a server be penalized. We simply want the deposit back that is rightfully ours. There are 6 Carmine's across the nation. It seems ridiculous that the additional $282 cannot be refunded. ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS CHARGE WAS A MISTAKE. Our group that night consisted of all young professionals. We all have bills to pay, and we are all living within our means. It is a shame that we chose to share a night of celebration with Carmine's, and in return, they have responded with a COMPLETE LACK OF CONCERN and IMMATURITY. I will not be returning.

great service, okay food, gigantic portions, group atmosphere. this place is very group/family friendly - it was very easy to just walk in and get a table almost immediately for a group of 8. the plates are very large and meant to be family style. if you're just a group of two, it might be difficult to finish one plate between yourselves. the food itself is fine, but not anything memorable. i've also been to the one in new york, which was similar but somewhat higher in food quality/taste.

The food here is solid. I've had a variety of their pasta dishes (spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, rigatoni country style) and it's all been very good. The atmosphere is just what you would expect for an Italian restaurant - cozy, homely, and family style. The portions are enormous, so I'd recommend sharing one dish. I've never finished an entire dish here, even when sharing with someone else. The only thing I'm not too crazy about is their eggplant parmigiana, which I tried when I was at the 2012 Taste of the Nation event (and I had already been a regular prior to the event so I knew what they're capable of making. I wish they could have brought one of their signature pasta dishes to the event instead, but understandably eggplant parmigiana is easier since it's a cold dish). Other than that, even the other veggies and appetizers I've had, like broccoli or escarole, and zuppa di clams, have been good. 3.5 stars for consistent huge portions of Italian food and typically good service. Great place for large families to share.

It is absolutely ridiculous that Carmine's management refuses to correct this issue. It amounts to robbery.

Overcharged $600 - Refused to Make Good My wife and I booked a party of 19 for at Carmine's for a friend's 30th birthday party. We put down a $600 deposit to reserve a private room. At the end of the dinner, we got a bill from the server and paid it all at the restaurant, a large portion in cash. A few days later the deposit is still on the CC. Carmine's refused to remove it claiming it was non-refundable. After multiple phone calls to Sharoq the GM and Leeanne requesting to talk to the server and review tapes, they admitted there was a mistake and offered to refund us $318. My wife explained that she would like the whole $600 back and Sharoq became extremely rude. At the end of the conversation, my wife asked for his bosses number - Sharoq hung up on her. I went to talk to Sharoq in person, he once again admitted there was a mistake but refused to rectify the situation and gave me his bosses information. We contacted Randy Talbot, the Director of Operations at Alicart Group. After a couple phone calls he advised us that because the server took the money home, he could not take it back from her and there was nothing he could do. He said he would give us his boss's information, but never did. I don't know whether this was a mistake or malicious, but the lack of concern from Carmine's management and inability to make things right to the customer while being rude and hostile is unacceptable for any business. Do NOT reserve a private event with Carmine's.

The food here is good for what it is: American Italian that is served family style and in huge portions. Bigger isn't always better. Their bar specials are solid and they have some great food options there. The restaurant is very involved in the community and often gives back a wide range of charities. I've had sit down meals here and the service is always mediocre - it's also a target for huge school trips and a ton of tourists so if you don't like crowds you might want to skip it...

Great family-style location for big groups. If you're looking for a spot to host a birthday party for a variety of ages (kids, adults alike), this is your place. It tends to be a little on the noisy side, but the food is great, dependable, and the waitstaff is very friendly and accommodating. Leave room for dessert!
