This is not about search marketing, but darnit, I want to help pound a nail in the coffin of the fad of banner carousels or image sliders. They suck! Usability pros and plenty of conversion testing show how they suck. This article has a good summary.

Good study on how long it takes for new InLinks to result in ranking improvements in search engines. Marketing managers should understand this, so they can best assess employees and/or vendors. Upshot: takes 10 weeks, though there are important variations in this average.

As a marketing manager, you surely check your Google Analytics reports at least monthly. If you see a big change, one of the first things you should do is check if there were any major Google algorithm changes recently. This article is a case in point.

Too many people have claimed that search engines’ natural language processing, especially Google’s recent Hummingbird update, mean keyword-level SEO is dead. Nonsense. Yes, topic focus is more important now--and it’s been important for well over a decade--but an exact match between a phrase on a page and a search still prevail. This interesting study supports this common-sense conclusion.
