Hashtag Usage 101: Get creative. Have a biz promo to post to try to ramp up sales? Why not create it’s own #hashtag? Spend a few days prior to the promo launch getting your viewers excited about the launch & include a custom hashtag for the event (example: #MayFreebie or #WeekOfDiscounts). Have fun, get creative, and make sure you use this new hashtag (along with other industry & location specific) with every post during your promo! All participants can now search that promo hashtag to find your posts in one spot (if they aren't viewing your profile).

Hashtag Usage 101: Stay on top of your game. Only post once a week to your social media platform? Using one #hashtag in this one post will get you buried in a matter of hours or minutes. While social media is an amazing way to stay on top of communicating with potential customers, it’s also a fast pace platform with tons of posts and topics. Tip: Try to post something with a specific hashtag once a day or more. The more you post, the more visible in the searchable fields your business will become! It also will show potential customers that you are current and active on your sites.

Hashtag Usage 101: The basics. A #hashtag is basically a searchable word or term on whatever social media platform you are posting on. For instance, type in the search bar in Facebook for your field of business. You'll get a ton of instant results from a broad range of services and business locations around the world. Now, search your business field + your location (aka #raleighretail, #GarnerNCElectrical)....now you'll start seeing your competition!

Hashtag Usage 101: Use proper ettiequte. Yes, there is such a thing as hashtag etiquette! For Twitter & Facebook, use 1-2 hashtags per post. For Google & Pinterest, use a couple more (up to 3). Finally, for all you #Instagram fans, use up to 10! Over usage of hashtags can not only be visually overwhelming to the reader, but also your product or service can get lost in the process. Here’s a tip: before you post, search potential hashtags before using them. Here’s a great site to see results on all platforms: http://buff.ly/2r9L8Fn If you see your competition in the results, you’re zeroing in the right hashtag so you can throw your hat in the ring!

Hashtag Usage 101: Don’t go crazy. Try to use industry & location specific hashtags if you’re aiming for engagement or local leads. Don’t use a hashtag that’s either too generic, or doesn’t make much sense (for example, instead of using #StuffToDo, use #LocalEventsClaytonNC). Think of targeting the search audience. I’ve seen small businesses use their own business name or tagline as a hashtag. It’s ok to use your company name as a hashtag, but who’s going to search that specific term? Using your business name, however, is a great way to archive your posts in one place. That way in the future a customer might search your business name as a hashtag and see all posts tagged with your hashtag. Again, for targeted customer reach, use industry & location specific hashtags. This is very important if you’re a brick & mortar and don’t sell products online to a wider audience.
