Pops Moore told me about his old barber back in the 1940's-1950's named Pat Moore He started out on Central Avenue He later moved up to Western Avenue Pat had a shop and product factory Pops Moore said his barber would ask him to bring high school chemistry books So that he could make sure his chemical product formula was correct and would not cause harm to his customers What did Pat produce in his factory? Pops Moore said : "Pat produced his own hair straightening formula. Back they called it a 'conk'. His brand name was Du-Conk. I remember feeling that stuff being combed up the back of my head and I KNEW I'd go bald back there one day." I about fell out laughing as we drove by Cafam on Wilshire as he told me the story. He also pointed out that Pats sister used to be the head chef and manager of The Egg and Eye cafe where Cafam is located now.
