Some thoughts on recent events I've attended where I have given presentations on Open Badges. The most inspiring take-away I had, came from the OU Symposium 'Caring roles: Learning lives'. This post contains some of my thoughts on how badges could be used to recognise some of the attributes carers develop as they manage the challenges involved in juggling full time education with full time caring roles. In the words of one young carer, they have to live 'one and half lives' as they not only have to think of and look after themselves but the person they are caring for too. Some of the challenges they face are articulated in videos I include from a resource intended to support colleges to support carers, developed by the College Development Network, called 'Enabling Student Carers'.
