“I came to see Helen to stop smoking. I had tried patches and gum but found that I was always looking for an excuse to take them off and keep smoking. The process of hypnosis was extremely relaxing calming and what I found quite interesting was how aware I was of the process and was aware of what was being said.

Since the session I have still been around smokers and I don’t feel the need or urge to smoke. This is huge shift for me because I really loved smoking and that was what made giving up so hard, but through hypnosis there are no cravings no one last cigarette it’s as if I never smoked. “I was having problems sleeping, I slept well when I got there but it took too long to fall asleep. I had a Skype chat with Helen and she asked me questions to find out what my favourite place to be was. She sent me a recording and I fell asleep at the beginning of the recording when she was introducing how to relax. I listened to it 2 or 3 times but haven’t needed it the last few nights. If the horrible patter re-occurs I’ll start using it again.”

"Do what you have always done and you will get what you have always got" - (unknown)

When I was a kid my aunt had a plaque in her downstairs loo - it went like this:

God grant me 
the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference

How many of us get stressed out because we want things to be different but don't or can't do anything to change them? 

how often do we wish things were different but don't have the confidence to do anything about it, and how often do we stop and think 'is this something I CAN change?'

Making positive change doesn't always mean changing a situation 

positive change could be a change in your attitude, in accepting that you cannot change a situation as much as it could be having the confidence/courage to effect a change. 

The first step is understanding the difference. 

Some people find NLP and/or hypnotherapy useful in identifying and making positive change.

At this time of year some people decide not to make Resolutions - history has told them it doesn't work; Others make a Resolution but on average give up within the first 9 days!!! - 

Many fail because either their goals are too broad - 
'I'm going to lose weight' - how much, by when, how will you do it? 
or stated negatively - 'I will stop.........' or 'I will give up......' makes it sound so difficult doesn't it?

Many teachers out there are going to groan when I say - you need to make your goals SMART... and use positive language....
For those who haven't heard of SMART goals before here's what it means:

S - specific - make it as specific as possible -
M - measurable can you measure your goal -
A - achievable - make sure it's something you can achieve
R - realistic - a 'check' on achievable - is it realistic
T - Time bound - give yourself a deadline to achieving the goal.

so the same Resolution re-written could be:

I'm gong to be 10lbs lighter in 2 weeks.

So it's specific - it says how much lighter
It's measurable - 
It's achievable - it is possible for most to lose 10lbs
It's realistic - for some people with a lot of weight to lose, BUT not for others - this may need work
and there's a time limit.

So take another look at your resolution - re-write it if you need to and look forward to reaching your goals!

Why use Hypnotherapy/NLP?
Habits/values/beliefs are stored in the subconscious mind so the negative beliefs/thoughts/emotions - those little feelings of inadequacy, that phobia/fear,  that urge to have another cigarette or eat that cream cake, the stress reactions to situations are stored in the subconscious.  
Willpower is using the conscious mind to impose change.  The reason you have to use so much power over such a long time is that the subconscious still has  the habitual behaviour/belief stored and it is the subconscious that determines our behaviour our emotions etc.  Wouldn't it be good if there was an easier way?

In a state of deep relaxation the subconscious comes to the fore and becomes accessible to rapid change and it is only through the coming together of the conscious and subconscious minds that a positive permanent change happens. 
For some clients hypnotherapy alone is appropriate and for others solely NLP is the appropriate method and yet for others the combination of hypnotherapy and NLP produces amazingly rapid and permanent change.

What is NLP? -

These skills, tools, methods and techniques are combined under the banner NLP. NLP is an increasingly popular method of creating personal change quickly and effectively by going directly to the body-mind in order to re-write/re-frame unproductive/negative behaviours, beliefs and patterns of living. Permanent and positive change can be achieved surprisingly quickly.

What is hypnosis and hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation leading to a focused state of awareness.  It is something we have all experienced - just before we sleep and awaken (without an alarm clock); or being totally into reading a book or watching a film you don't hear someone talking to you - or arriving at a destination without remembering the journey.  At times like these the conscious mind is relaxed and the subconscious/unconscious comes to the fore and in hypnotherapy we use this state to guide you to make positive changes.

What Hypnotherapy is not: 
Hypnotherapy is NOT mind control, it cannot make you do anything you do not want to do - it is impossible to hypnotise someone who does not want to be hypnotised.  Hypnotherapy is NOT sleep - you are awake and aware at all times you hear everything and can respond.  You are always in control and can bring yourself out of the state whenever you choose.
