Rochester Receives Prestigious Four-Star Award.

Rochester was honored to receive Raytheon Integrated Defense System's Four Star Award at the 2014 Supplier Excellence Awards Dinner at the Westin Waltham on Wednesday, June 4th. In order to qualify for this prestigious award, a supplier must exhibit at least 97% On Time Delivery and at least 97% Quality performance for the previous calendar year. Less than 1% of Raytheon’s suppliers qualified for this award in 2014. Accepting the award on behalf of Rochester were Eric Falconer, Quality Manager, and Laura Liacos, Inside Sales Representative for the Raytheon account at Rochester. The award was presented to Eric and Laura by Mike Shaughnessy, Vice President for IDS Integrated Supply Chain, and Robert Curbeam, Vice President for IDS Mission Assurance, Quality and Raytheon Six Sigma.

Raytheon is an international aerospace and defense company headquartered in Waltham, Mass. Their four businesses work together to craft solutions for a wide variety of government and commercial customers. Did you know that Rochester Electronics has active devices?
Rochester’s FASSt ™ (Factory Authorized Safety Stock) is for times when active devices are not available from traditional authorized distributors or have a long factory lead time. Original manufacturers and Rochester Electronics have contractual agreements that span decades, allowing access to over-stock, active parts in preparation for availability in times when supply is limited due to factory production lead times and increased demand, eliminating potential shortages for critical devices. This program also eliminates the threat of counterfeit devices reaching a production line, and all devices are fully traceable to the original semiconductor manufacturer. The FASSt™ program is a tremendous resource to keep production lines running without interruption.

Over the weekend, USA Today released its list of the 9 most counterfeited products in the US. Coming in at number 7 was Computers/Accessories, of which semiconductors were specifically noted, along with a statement that read, "The Semiconductor Industry Association released a report in August, noting that counterfeit semiconductors can cause dangerous malfunctions in medical equipment and even in household appliances." The MSRP for computer and accessory goods in 2013 alone was $47.7 million in just over a thousand seized shipments. The complete article can be found at:

Further efforts by the SIA ACTF to combat the flow of counterfeit semiconductors:
"America depends on semiconductors, the tiny chips that enable all electronics. But like other products, semiconductors can be counterfeited, and these counterfeits can end up in critical consumer, industrial, medical, and military devices, potentially undermining our public safety and national security. SIA is actively working to raise awareness of these threats and to reduce the supply of counterfeit chips."
