La Mar is probably the restaurant I most often recommend. It's right on the water - you can luck out and get a table in their covered patio right on the bay - but the food is also spectacular. I'm not big on seafood, but the ceviche is so light and fresh, I make an exception for it. The heartier dishes are just as if not more tasty and you definitely walk away feeling full. The empanadas are a crowd favorite, and I really enjoyed the quinoa causa salad.

Thoroughly enjoyed everything. The cerviches are all very tasty and we also enjoyed the soft shell crab, the octopus and the Peruvian style beef stir fry.

Excellent food (ceviche, pescado) and great staff! Prices are a bit steep though...

I went here for happy hour, and I thought it was good. The prices for the drinks were decent. I wish I could say the same for the food. My ceviche was really small. I took a bite and it was gone. The seating is first come, first serve, so it can get cramped and competitive really quickly. I was fortunate to get seats for me and my three girlfriends, especially since we didn't come at the same time. I went here for lunch many years ago, and I thought the ceviche was delicious back then, so it's nice to know that they've been consistent. It's a beautifully decorated restaurant with great views of the East Bay. If you're craving Peruvian food and a hip atmosphere, then this place is for you. Otherwise, if you are on a budget, this place, and perhaps the entire Embarcadero area, is not the place you'd want to be hungry.

I've been here at least ten times by now and am always excited to taste their causa (whipped potato with seafood and vegetables) dishes. Their presentation is exquisite and my eyes go back and forth from the plate to the nice view of the bay. It is a great escape away from the touristy mayhem of the Saturday Ferry building crowd. I love the house made potato, plaintain and yucca chips with two sauces that arrive after ordering food. The chips are so non-stop good and go great together with the ceviches and causas.

Went here to meet a a few friends for an afternoon Sunday brunch on the rear patio. which was perfect because the weather was perfect. This place is a little pricey, not only are you paying for the view but the food and drinks are top quality. I ordered the grilled octopus which was on par with some of the best I've had. Also tried some of their cerviche which was also delicious. The Pisco Sours they make are authentic and delicious, highly recommend getting one. I've sat at their bar before as well and the service was also excellent there.

A great atmosphere with great a Peruvian inspired menu and one of the best restaurant views of the Bay. I enjoyed the fresh empanadas and shrimp/scallop pasta.

Great food, great service. We popped in on a Saturday night without reservations. The main dining area was full, but there was ample seating available at a counter area overlooking part of the kitchen. So we were, fortunately, seated immediately. This was around 6:30pm. Had it been 30 minutes later, we wouldn't have been so lucky. The wait staff are constantly in motion, nonstop activity. Just a few minutes after ordering, food came streaming out. Portions were very small, but each bite was bursting with wonderful flavors. Dungeness crab, empanadas, a paella style dish, were all very tasty. We scraped the dishes for every morsel. On the pricey side; nonetheless, will be returning.
