La Mar is excellent Peruvian food on the water on Embarcadero. There is a bar in the front which is great for happy hour with some good specials and excellent snacks. I particularly like the ceviche. For dinner, the restaurant is really nice with a warm, modern feel and a back patio that is tough to beat anywhere in the city. The service is friendly and formal and food comes out quick enough. Pretty much any seafood here is good. Pricey, but you get what you pay for.

What a great restaurant by the water! They've spent quite some time planning the decor and ambience for sure. Good food, interesting cocktails and great place for happy hour. I recommend anything there! Fantastic peruvian ceviche.Gracias!

This review is for the Happy Hour at La Mar. There’s no better way to wash away the stresses of the work day than drinking a $6 cocktail and munching on Peruvian fare for less than $6 per plate while the bay winds breeze through your hair. The venue has patio seating available with a tremendous view of the San Francisco Bay. The ambience is clean, modern, and chic. It’s a great mix of city night life and an authentic Peruvian cebichería. Happy Hour is from 3pm to 6pm Monday through Sunday. Enjoy a Pisco Sour or a variety of other cocktails for $6. If you want something a little sweet, try the sangria or prickly pear margarita. The passion daiquiri is my personal favorite. A glass of white or red wine is only $5 and Peruvian beer is $3.50.

Hit or miss. We came here for happy hour because we were in the neighborhood. The service was friendly and capable. THE FOOD... some was good, some was not very good. **CEBICHIN MIXTO** Spicy, but not too spicy. Citrusy. It was a great cebiche. **CAUSA LIMENA** Really good. Crab sitting atop a beautiful little potato. The sauces and purees were also great compliments. Get your own you won't want to share. **PANCITO CON CHICARON** This is a tough one for me. The pork belly was deep-fried, it was crispy on the outside and creamy rich on the inside, but the slice was too thick. The result was fat running down your hands and when you took a bit, and a fat coating your mouth. If there was any way for them to cut the pork belly thinner (1/4 to 1/2 the thickness), I think this would be a winner, but as it stands it was too rich, too indulgent, too fatty. We ended up dipping the sando in the remaining cebiche sauce to cut the richness of the pork belly. **FRIED CALAMARI** Terrible. Fishy, and overcooked. Tough, dry, and the flavor was awful. **CHICHARRON DO POLLO ANTICUCHERO** Fried chicken thigh meat. It was good, not great. Sauces were lost on the fried coating, and their flavors were not strong enough to stand up to the breading. The drinks were the same. Some good, some ok. **PRICKLY PEAR MARGARITA** the winner of the bunch. Hands down. **PISCO PUNCH** good, very limey, but good. **PASSION DAIQUIRI** I really don't like maraschino (which is a key ingredient in daiquiris). It wasn't listed on the cocktail menu as an ingredient, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I am pretty sure there was maraschino, I should have known better. My fault, but I didn't care for this drink. Would we go again? Maybe if we were in the area for happy hour.

Awesome ceviche! Very good light and fluffy causas (had the salad one, topped with greens). Of the skewer combo chicken were the best, very moist and flavorful.

Seemed like it would be a great even space. The empanada sampler was a great entree at $18.00. The ceviche sampler as well was delicious. Amazing happy hour - cocktails and apps for about $6. Runs everyday 3-6pm.
