Wine of the Month: Shaw + Smith Shiraz 2012

I have now tasted this wine several times and looking back on each note, I now realise that each one has the word impressive in it.  To my mind it is a benchmark for elegance in Australian Shiraz.

And this week, we have a smart looking red with change from a tenner, a smooth Hungerford Hill chardie and a very special Pizzini Wines treat indeed.

One decadent night … look what escaped the cellar!

Are you a wine hoarder too? I have recently realised that I am but there are no wine horror stories here…. Just two clarets and a Jimmy…

and a night spent with good friends…

This year has been our year for letting wine escape from our cellar. We have found that we were squirrelling away our wines and not appreciating them as we intended when we purchased them a decade or so ago. And so, we are beginning to rectify this and here are some we shared with friends this month.  Friends, incidentally, that we also have not appreciated enough lately.

So this is what we got out - A Yarra Yering No. 1,    +Wolf Blass Black Label and a Chateaux Poujeaux. And interesting mix - all with 14 - 15 years on them.  The reviews are up.

Get out something to share from your cellar this week and enjoy.

Wine of the Month:  +Tahbilk Winery  2013 Marsanne

Tahbilk have several version of Marsanne and this is the one that will win your heart. A little known fact is that Tahbilk claim to have the largest, single holding of the variety in the world. It certainly has a long history with the Rhone grape with plantings dating back to 1927 and you can buy wines made from that particular planting under their ‘1927 Vines’ label, or buy this fresh faced version.

This 2013 vintage is looking remarkably prettywith spicy floral notes to the sun ripened pear and zesty lime held together with some minerality.  In the mouth, the floral notes become distinctly rose-like.
