Hi GEG SWVA!

We are excited to write that Google is seeking middle school teachers to take part in a weekend hackathon jointly hosted by the Google Earth Outreach team and the National Geographic Society.

This event will take place over December 9-11, 2016 at the Google Chicago, IL office. Participants will be working with Google’s Geo tools, tasked with generating ideas and developing innovative lessons that connect National Geographic content with new Google technology.

This 3-day collaborative event will include both Google Certified Educators and members of the National Geographic Educator Community. We want to teach students geospatial thinking skills within real-world contexts, to solve real-world problems, and encourage real-world action and exploration beyond classroom walls.

The agenda will be comprised of hands-on-training, brain-hack sessions, edtech talk, and fun :) All travel expenses will be covered.

You can learn more at this website: https://sites.google.com/site/ngsghack2016/home

We hope you apply and share the news with your fellow teachers!
