From Daniel Bassill at Tutor Mentor Institute: I've been piloting uses of GIS maps since 1993 to show where non-school tutor/mentor programs are needed, where existing programs are located, and where more are needed. I've also been using the maps to create what I call "The Rest of the Story" which are maps created following negative news, like a child being shot in Chicago. My map stories go beyond reporting, to showing the poverty that contributes to this incident, and showing the range of non-school tutor/mentor programs in the area, if there are any. My stories conclude with a call to involvement, inviting businesses, churches, colleges, hospitals and political leaders who share this geography to work together to support existing programs and help new ones form where needed. I've been sharing maps and map stories on the Mapping for Justice blog since 2008. See http://mappingforjustice.blogspot.com   Note: since 2010 I've not had funds to update my survey, or my map capacity. The interactive program locator now has SQL error messages which I'm not able to fix without finding funds to hire tech talent, or finding tech talent to volunteer time.

It's Showtime!
Lead With Purpose: Toastmaster Practices Inspired by The Four Agreements

Tim Ferris, Toastmaster and member of Mid-Day Toastmasters in Cleveland, Ohio stars in his #3 Speech "on the book" with Toastmasters. This day's meeting gathered in Perk Park, a recently restored downtown green space.

Tim's presentation draws upon his review of the book, The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by don Miguel Ruiz, a book used by many people to support personal life-change and self-improvement.

The lesson? We are all in our own movie and with the aid of principles drawn from The Four Agreements, we can each be a better Producer, Director and Star!
