What do you do when neither +Ingress nor +Niantic don't show up at the world's biggest gaming event, the +gamescom in Cologne, Germany?

Easy answer: Nothing. In my opionion it doesn't matter if an online game has a real booth at a fair or not. It's more imporant that they concentrate on the strange anomalies in XM-concentration that were forecasted for several cities around the globe and show up to keep the crowds calm ('keep calm and buy swag").

But as #Ingress agents we share a deeper insight in our sourroundings. We know:
The world around us is not what it seems
The other visitors thought that the illumination project #LightItUp was just a nice way from a light artist to celebrate the 10th birthday of the gaming event and fair.

Both of the insightful #Ingress factions knew, that something deeper is going on. While Resistance was able to cover Germany's largest river Rhine in front of the Cologne Cathedral with a blue field, the Enlightened were able to capture Cologne's most iconic bridge: The Hohenzollernbrücke.

Well, not the entire bridge. At least the Eastern arch. The middle one is considered as a neutrale zone and stays in uncaptured #fiftyshadesofgrey. The Western arch is the arena for a team red. This is bunch of so called trainers playing a silly AR-game where they mainly maliciously throw hard balls at cute little monsters.

Simply incomparable to the highly strategic and educational value of Ingress. There is only one game that provides us really great answers for the question #wheredidingresstakeyoutoday . This game is supposedly the only reason for thousands of players to keep their G+ account active. But that's another story.

It's not an appeal, but maybe someone at +NIA Ops could switch a bit vom 1 to 0 in the about section of this G+ community.

There is still this text: "At this time, only Ingress Agents at level 11 and above can submit new Portals using the Ingress Scanner."

Since November 2017 the required level for OPR submissions got lowered to 10: https://plus.google.com/+Ingress/posts/ePmekxjb6zD

Thanks.

Appeal Category: Rejected Edit

Portal Title: Radioteleskop Effelsberg

City, Region and Country: Max-Planck-str. 28, 53902 Bad Münstereifel, Eifel, Germany

Lat/Long: 50.524122 / 6.882798

Ingress Intel Link: https://www.ingress.com/intel?ll=50.524122,6.882798&z=18

Reason/comments: This portal is one of the coolest in our region: The biggest radio telescope in Europe with a 100m aperture dish. I visited it just recently and discovered that the portal is really misplaced. Instead near the XM-artifact it is in the middle of the woods near the facility. Especially in summer it is hard to reach, since you have to walk down a steep hill and then hike though some serious fields of stinging-nettles. It’s uncomfortable in summer and and really dangerous at icy winter conditions. We all know that this doesn’t hold off a real Ingress explorer. But in combination with the misplacement I suggested a location edit. I chose a location on the paved road right in front of the telescope where the visitors of the public guided tours can take their “I almost touched it” pictures. This suggestion was unfortunately rejected. I’ve attached two actual pictures. One of the faked portal location which shows the vegetation around it (the one with the very blue sky). And one from the control center/visitor’s point of view. My suggested location is at the bottom of this picture. Some agents might complain that the new location isn’t 24/7 to reach. But this is the same case with cool portals in several locations as zoos, botanical gardens or museums. Exploring the world isn’t only about walking around. Sometimes it takes some preparation in planning and timing your visit.

Ingress agent +Lars Tögemann is not the classical embedded reporter for Ingress events. He doesn't stream and post his pictures in (near) real time. But it's always worth waiting for his high quality impressions of the events.

This time I'm even more delighted since he covered the #MDPlusCGN which was organized by our local Ingress XF-community in Cologne.

Thanks for sharing your incrediblue pictures with us!
#MissionDayCologne #ingress

One month later good time to refresh this wonderful day by some blue photos.
Let me resume.. it was sunny, hot, hotter, ingress.

Thanks for the MD Team, who offered a lot of time and passion to made this happen.

Du weißt, dass Du zuviel oder zu müde +Ingress spielst, wenn Du erstaunt was von einer „Agentenschule“ liest und erst bei „Agentenkloster“ stutzt und genauer hinschaust.

My last review message for a submitted portal picture dates from 3 weeks ago. Since I have a rather constant stream of submissions this could mean that +NIA Ops didn’t review any submissions during the last three weeks - or just mine („your submission quota is exceeded, agent Nelkon. forever.“).

Did you notice anything similar? Did you get any picture review messages after 10. July 2018?

Where could you go when you already earned the #cassandraneutralizer badge you longed for? How about the end of the universe?
This is a very special #wheredidingresstakeyoutoday story. At least for me. Usually I explore cool new places when we have an +Ingress operation like a big field. There was in fact a rather big field in the making (8 MMU in the South of #Cologne and right next to this location).

But I didn‘t take part in that special one. I preferred to seize the opportunity to visit one of the biggest radioastromony telescopes of the world. For 29 years it was the biggest of all. So it is really HUGE. The dish of the @maxplanckgesellschaft of the #Radiotelescope #Effelsberg has a diameter of 100m.

Do you see the structures in the middle of the dish? Their actual size is that of small houses. And it is very specialized. While our smartphones and DSLRs gain more and more pixels from generation to generation the astronomical sensor has a resolution of 1 pixel. But that’s enough to analyze the radio signals from outer space. They recently found through spectography water in a solar system millions of lightyears away.

But what‘s the role of Ingress in it? Well. When we recently exchanged keys for a similar field as mentioned before (Operation Just Cause) I met an +Ingress Enlightened agent who spends his free non-ingress as an operator of the big space behemoth. So I got an exklusive tour to the places where these deep space paparazzi gather the vast amount of data and control the movement of the 2k ton heavy movable part of the mirror. The wet dream of a science nerd 🤓 came true.

To process the many pictures I took will take a while but this xf-colored picture could be used out of the cam. It was taken with the #lumixgx80 with the #lumix25mm14 . But most pictures were taken with the #olympus8mm . It‘s a very special ultra wide focal length, but perfect for shots of structures like this. The pictures will show up on this timeline in the next days.

Ingress or any other game of +Niantic is unfortunately a bad idea at this place. The emitted radiation of your smartphone can interfere with the very sensitiv sensors. So you are required to keep it in flight mode. That‘s one small switch for an agent, but a giant leap for mankind.

„Invisible portal report reason“
There seems to be another bug in the #iOS scanner . When you report an invalid portal, you cannot see any letters in the test entry box while you type. That doesn‘t help to produce a good text that helps +NIA Ops to understand the issue.

I didn‘t find any prior case here at G+ . Therefore I opened ticket #676662 .

I personally doubt that there will be a solution prior to ingress prime. But in order get your software improved, you should report bugs anyway.

I wouldn’t bet too much money on team „ #ingressprime to be released on schedule.“
