O young man, when affliction comes your way, receive it with faith, patience, submission, and a smile! Be patient with it until its days are gone and its times are over.

The most beneficial means of rectifying your heart, attaining forgiveness for your sins, protecting yourself from calamities and attaining everything that you wish to attain is keeping the company of the friends of Allah, the scholars who act on their knowledge. If you see them, they remind you of Allah. Their state lifts you and causes you to seek Allah and their speech guides you to Him. Witnessing their noble attributes encourages you to attain similar attributes. Keeping their company and looking at them is an act of worship and loving them is a cause of attaining felicity.

For every kind of problem, issue and request that one may have, the Lawgiver (meaning the Prophet) has given a helpful benefit (as a solution for it), and the Awliya’ have given additional solutions. So whoever combines the benefit of the Lawgiver with the additions of the Awliya’, then he has full success and guidance. And whoever confines himself to one without the other, then he is deficient accordingly.

You must never feel safe from the cunning devices of Allah, and yet you must never despair of Allah's mercy. You must live life between fear and hope.

Every act of obedience draws the slave to his Lord if he gives it its due, performs it as it should be performed, performs it is with a pious intention and desires only the pleasure of Allah in doing it. The purity of the slave’s actions and intentions is according to the purity of his heart.

All knowledge without action is meaningless; all knowledge and action without intention is worthless; all knowledge, action and intention not in accordance with the Sunnah is rejected; all knowledge, action and intention in accordance with the Sunnah without scrupulousness is at risk of coming to nothing.

Remove the love of dinars and of dirhams from your heart until they become as pebbles and sand in your eyes. Remove the wish to be thought highly of from your heart until your are indifferent to people's praise and condemnation, and to whether they are attracted or repulsed by you. For the love of prominence is more harmful than that of money, and both indicate desire for the world.

Follow in their footsteps (prophets and saints) and you will be safe and secure. Follow their path and you will attain to success and many profits. Seek protection in God, for he who seeks protection in God has been guided to a straight path.

O disciple, know that only when you realize that your days in this world are few and your death near, will you be capable of acts of obedience, of avoiding lusts, and of turning away from this world. Keep your ultimate end before your eyes, make ready for death, and know that it may descend upon you at any moment.
