We held a all-day event, including business and social meetings at this venue. In preparation for this event, the owners were more than helpful in accommodating our questions and needs. On the day of the event, the staff was attentive and efficient, the choice of menu was varied and excellent as was the food itself. The quality and quantity was abundant. They made every effort to ensure our event was a success and everyone left happy. It is our pleasure to highly recommend the New England House, The committee for Centered Riding, Inc. We've been to this restaurant several times since it has been under new ownership, most recently last night, and we have always left very happy. The chef is expert, he prepares a nice variety of nightly specials, in addition to a nice menu selection--there is something for every taste, from big juice burgers to vegetarian dishes. Last night I had salmon with a dill sauce over a bed of steamed kale, with garlic mashed potatoes. The salmon was perfectly cooked, the sauce very yummy, and the kale tender...the mashed had skins and lumps, just the way we LOVE them. The service has always been very pleasant and efficient. The place needed a facelift, and is looking better all the time. I recommend this place to the locals looking for a nice dinner out without a long drive, but it's also worth driving to from towns an hour or so away. We had dinner again at New England House last night, and I upped my star. We only had burgers, resisting the many more elegant choices. My burger actually came out overcooked, but the server and chef replaced it so readily and graciously, including paying for my drink, that I'm glad it happened--it tells you a lot about how place when they handle a problem so well. The house was packed with several large parties, yet the servers were all smiling broadly, especially Melissa, who took care of us, the food came out in a normal amount of time, and the diners appeared to be enjoying the food and atmosphere. Again, I highly recommend that people who like food, simple and elegant alike, give this place a try.

I've been going to this rustic comfort food haunt for many years; ownership has changed but the food and service continue to improve. The vampire chasers are a favorite of many in our family and this is our go-to for a hearty meal. After reading the various posts that aren't the kindest of reviews--> clearly just a few people are bent on being obnoxious and negative. I'm an Executive Chef with years of patronage at the New England House-- used to live nearby and would hang out by the fire many cold winter nights. It's country rustic comfort food with warm rolls, toasty fires (in season) and good prices...check out the early bird special from 430-630pm and save some dough. The filet au poivre is my personal fave but the basil chicken is pretty awesome too!

I'm going there tonight and will be writing a detailed review regarding this restaurant. I typically write reviews for city restaurants but happen to be in Southern Vermont this evening. I'm excited to see if this is deserving of its rating or if its employees are wiring the reviews.

Waiting and waiting...Waited 15 minutes for waitress to take order, had to talk me wife out of leaving twice! then 50 minutes for meal, food was horrible, ordered Nachos with pulled pork, got Nachos with a sliced up old pork chop or something on top, Gross! Wife liked the Chicken pesto, but my burger was small, not worth the $$$. We only stopped there because it was the first restaurant in a while on our trip, after leaving there's a diner around the corner, heck I would have been happier and dunkin Donuts next door!

My husband and I had a horrible experience at The New England House. I'm not one to write reviews, but their poor customer service needs to be heard about! We went out to eat with some friends, and had some drinks too. My husband ordered a steak that was absolutely horrible. He sent it back, and the waitress offered to get him something else. He had lost his appetite at that point, and was not interested in ordering anything else. When the bill came, he noticed that it hadn't been removed. We were surprised by this, especially since he only took one bite of the steak. He brought it to the waitress's attention, and she said that her Manager wouldn't let her remove it. My husband spoke with Manager and he very bluntly stated that he wouldn't remove it because it looked fine to him. Whether it looked fine or not, removing an item from a bill for a dis-satisfied customer is customer service 101. He didn't care about our satisfaction what-so-ever. My husband and I own a catering business, and he's been a chef/restaurant manager for the past 15 years... He knows what he's talking about! I think I should add that our bill was over $200 - We clearly weren't just trying to be cheap. Needless to say, we haven't been back and when anyone asks us about the New England House we tell them about this situation and the opt to choose a different restaurant.

Super slow service, over an hour wait for an appetizer, wait staff was clueless, ignored multiple requests just for water. Avoid at all costs.
