This place represents the worst of NYC - lousy food, shockingly expensive catering to unaware tourists... It needs to close ... the one-star rating is the only way to get a review published on Google. Otherwise I would give it minus five stars . STAY FAR, FAR AWAY!

We had a mixed experience in early August, spoiled when one of my favorite polo shirts was stained by chlorine left on the restroom counter by the cleaning staff. Several other execution missteps made it a less than a great stay. The rooms are small. The bathroom had an opague glass door so there was no privacy. The green tea in the lobby was $4.27 a cup, more expensive than what I would pay at a Starbucks in Manhattan. The restaurant was excellent, but the staff was new and disorganized. The conversion of the old newspaper building into a hotel was spectacular. The use of the old stainless steel conveyor belt which carried the newspapers as decorative walls in the elevators was a nice touch. There were many nice touches. But the hotel could have used another elevator. The staff was friendly and helpful. The valet let me park in front of the building on Exchange Street while my wife and I had breakfast. I was grateful for that. But I think I'll go back to staying at the Regency on my next trip back to Portland.

This is the latest trend spot in Lower Fairfield County. It is woefully uneven. I've had great meals here and dishes which I have had to turn back (chicken parm came tepid and almost cold). Young manager seems indifferent to any concerns. I hate that they have valet parking in the lot where previous restaurants simply let you park. Like lots of divorcee magnets, the place is way to loud to have a conversation. I give it a year before they succumb to the malaise which killed Palomino, Greenwich Tavern and Bistro Latino.
