I just launched a new e-course for Lent. The class is called Be :: Life and the Rest of It, playing on the theme of Radical Sabbath. I've asked seven artists to help me lead the class through workshops in their area of expertise, from photography to spiritual directing to found poetry. I've also come up with weekly reflections and spiritual practices and recipes. Instead of fasting from chocolate or meat or Facebook, we'll have a day each week to concentrate on letting go of things like shame and self-loathing. I haven't been this excited about a project of mine in months. I have this rapidly expanding feeling in my heart that this is going to be remarkably transformative for everyone involved. I want to reach more than just the folks who can afford it, so I've added a scholarship option. When someone pays for a spot, a portion of their cost goes into the scholarship fund. For every two people who sign up, someone else will get a scholarship. I want to emphasize the idea that no matter you find yourself right now—regardless of your religion, finances, or any other factor that divides and labels us—we're all in this together. And we can all participate in restorative rest.

As a creator, the hardest part is always the "marketing" aspect. But this feels very close to who I am and what I've been called to teach. So I'll be brave and share boldly. I'll trust in the feeling that you may need to read these words today. I'll risk rejection because I believe in what I'm doing. And I hope that if this class seems like somewhere you need to be, you'll join us. <3

I'm so excited to announce . . . it's finally live! I'm really stoked, you guys. This is going to be more than kind of awesome. :)

PS. There are a couple of Early Bird specials for the first 20 people to sign up. Oh, and! My friend Elora and I teamed up to create a very special story-centered deal (Scroll down 3/4 of the way for details).

Um, well, here we go! #fml #fmltheecourse #reframethatshit

What the heck is a Shalom Session?

Essentially, it’s my brand of coaching, honed and refined over the last three years. It begins with a prayer. It ends with a blessing. And I fill up the middle with all kinds of juicy questions.

I’m good at knowing what questions to ask. I’m good at cutting through all the fluff and getting right to the heart of the matter. I’m good at figuring out where you need to go, and then going there, gently but boldly using language that resonates with you.

You might come thinking it’s your career dreams that have you spun, but what you actually need is encouragement that you are rocking it as a parent or to identify a lie you’re believing. I won’t know that when we start, but I trust my intuition will lead me to begin at a place that will ultimately take us there. Other times, you are actually stuck in the realm of life’s work and you need practical help with marketing or resistance or Twitter to move onto the next level. Because I’m a business nerd, I love going there, too. And I’m good at it.

Basically, I offer integration. A way to make peace with all of the pieces of your life—and perspective on how those pieces connect.
    Elora was my first. --------- Sweaty palmed and shaking, I asked her questions that had deep roots in my heart. The ones that changed everything for me. The ones I knew - or thought I...

A couple of years ago, Cedar Ridge Community Church, my church back in MD, ran a series for Lent all about love and sex. It helped me realize things about myself and my sexuality that you can only learn by combining intimacy and Lent. That's why I am especially excited to be taking Nicole Romero's Valentine's Day e-course, Love and Making It and why I am positively giddy that she is teaching week four's workshop in Be:

Questions :: What is your body trying to tell you? What hurts? What itches? What feels amazing? What emotions are you trying to block out? What would it look like to accept yourself unconditionally, inside and out?
Recipe :: Cocktail
Spiritual Practice :: Sensual Dance
What we’ll let go :: Self-loathing
Workshop :: Love and Making It with Nicole Romero

Her class terrifies me and excites me in one fell swoop. That's how you know she's on to something. I really, really hope you'll join us.
