It's May, and a great opportunity to take pictures of flowers, birds, and sunsets. Come by Langley Library, May 21st for a free talk about some of the basics of Nature Photography. Fancy cameras not required - and, actually, simplest can be best. #Whidbey
The next public speaking event:   Public speaking, classes, shows - I enjoy them all. Here's the long list.   > May 21, 2015 Nature Photography talk: 6:30pm-8pm Langley Library (hosted...

My take on the annual report + quarterly earnings + more, $MVIS.
Rarely do I pay as much attention to a stock as I have been lately with MVIS. (Okay, I watch DNDN a lot, too.) My increased attention may be because MicroVision is entering exciting times, or becau...

A month of data-driven news summarized - as usual. #economy   #climatechange   #technology   #PNTP
Antarctica sets a new temperature record of 63.5F. California's snowpack is at 6% of normal. Since 1870, sea level has risen about 200mm. Only 70% of 20-24 year olds have jobs. Thawing permafrost a...

GDP is up. Productivity is up. Wage growth is stagnant. Part of the dichotomy may be the use of robots is up. The work gets done, but the proceeds go to the company, not the displaced employees. That is logical, but what happens to jobs as the percentage of robotic workforce increases? #incomeinequality
There has been a disconnect between growth in the economy and growth in jobs and wages. While some of the money disconnect is attributable to corporate finance and tax policies, some of the disconn...

Computers can read emotions, from facial expressions for a start. I think I'll keep my camera covered.
As if it wasn't spooky enough watching a web site display an ad based on a search you did on another web site. And, as it is wasn't spooky enough knowing that government surveillance could be surve...

Proof that the stock markets aren't just potentially unstable, but that they have been for years, in ways impossible before. Ex-DNDN holders take note. #Dendreon   #FlashCrash
The flash crash in 2010 gutted the stock market within minutes. The simple story recently revealed is that a trader placed lots of illegal sell orders hoping to drive down the price so he could buy...

The weird weather is not 100% due to human pollution and climate change. But it isn't 0% either. We have met the enemy, and we hit ourselves with wind, rain, and sun. Silly humans. #PNTP
Weather is short term. Climate is long term. Changes in climate show mean changes in weather. Analyses are revealing that human pollution is responsible for specific changes in both. "About 18 perc...

I went a bit overboard compiling $MVIS news. Whew. Read on and wonder.

Would change have happened more quickly if cell phones and YouTube were available 50 years ago? Will change happen now? (Like the way social media, i.e. real people, are showing the good and the bad.) #socialmedia
Until recently, major revolutions in thought and understanding relied on mass-produced publications or reports from broadcast media. Now, everyone with a social media account can scoop the news. An...

Conventional wisdom based on human nature is being challenged by old systems being run by new software, humans not required. Wisdom must be rewritten.

I'm surprised arbitrage hasn't kicked in on AST, but maybe it has and there are just some interesting valuations between AST, GERN, and BTX. Or, opportunity awaits.
