Love Friday Volleyball! I am not even a member of this gym, but Prairie Athletic opens up their sand volleyball courts on Fridays to the general public. With a full bar right at the courts, this is a great way to spend a Friday evening playing competitive volleyball!

Prairie Athletic Club is a great place to work out. They offer the whole spectrum of things to do, machines, free weights, cardio, spin, lap pool, heated pool, kids pool, outdoor water park, volleyball, basketball, lacross, soccer, group classes, hot tub, sauna, massages and spa, bar/restaurant, raquetball, tanning, a running track, and on and on.... I love it here!!! I have been to many other gyms, including Prairie's sister location in Middleton and would have to say this one has it all. I am completely satisfied and am ok with a 2 year contract. PLUS I was able to sign up for a couple's membership even though I am not married to my boyfriend. I have no complaints. Great place! The people who complained about a contract...well, you're signing a contract...with the expectation that you will commit for 2 years to working out. That's what you agreed to by signing a dotted line with your signature whether you choose to go there or not. Just saying!

I have been very unhappy with my membership to this gym. I signed up while pregnant, desperate to get some swimming workouts. The rep I spoke with pushed the 2 year contract plan (I signed up with a pregnant friend, it was the only way to get that price.) She told us that for a fee, we could cancel if we needed to, which was important because as first time mothers, we had no idea what the future would hold. As my pregnancy neared the end, I was unable to go to the gym because of the discomfort and some complications with my blood pressure. Finally, I gave birth (naturally!) to an 11 lb baby, which rendered me barely able to walk for at least a month. I tried to call and cancel my membership, as it had been several months since I had been able to use it, and they gave me the run around. Finally, I found the time to drive over there in person (a 45 minute drive for me) and request that the membership be cancelled, and they told me there was no way to cancel it, I was stuck paying for the full 2 years no matter what. I was pretty mad at this point. Finally got a hold of Jennifer, in Accounting, who told me the same thing, but finally let me know that I did have the option to put the membership on hold, which I immediately did. The hold was limited to 3 months. During those 3 months, I was diagnosed with lyme disease. Now I have a 6 month old daughter, am sick with lyme disease, and I figure SURELY I now have a doctor's excuse to get me out of this membership. Well nope! Jennifer informed me that they could put it on hold for 3 months with a doctor's written note saying I was unable to perform ANY activity at that gym (ridiculous!) I cancelled the credit card they were charging so they can't charge me any more. These people are liars, opportunists, and scam artists. The way they set up their memberships is unethical, and I would caution anybody considering a membership here to STAY AWAY! The one thing that drew me to this gym was the pool, and that was almost always filled up with lap swimmers (or unruly screaming children who ignored the posted rules that the lifeguards never bothered to stop from disrupting lap swim.) Bottom line: Save yourself the headache - join the Y.

The membership is way more pricey than most places, but they offer many services that other gyms do not. Pools, sauna, tanning, massage, etc. But I think they need some sort of roaming security in the building. I always end up with some old creepy pervert standing behind me when I'm exercising or stretching. When I go to another part of the do they! That needs to stop. I mentioned this to the front desk and they seemed very concerned. I haven't seen that man since my complaint, but it's still troubling to think about.

GREAT health club. Summers are awesome with the "water park" and you will ALWAYS find cardio equipemnt available (if you aren't too picky on what you do). Great programs, staff, trainers ETC.
