While the London riots aren't directly connected to the Tea Party holding the US government budget process hostage, and the subsequent stock market meltdown, the sequence of events can't help but make me think of the lead-up to the French Revolution. A lot of people don't seem to understand how things can spin out of control.

We're headed into some difficult times - even if the markets recover, and the real economy eventually follows - it's pretty clear that much of our modern "growth economy" can't continue forever.

We need cool heads to prevail if we're going to find our way to a better future without a lot more pain and violence.
