We use the term train wreck today to refer to a catastrophic event, but trains are relatively new and certainly did not exist in the middle ages. So how would someone refer to a catastrophic failure in an fantasy setting?

"Oh their plan ended up being a total goblin carnival"
"I saw it coming, I knew it would end up being a fireball implosion when I listened to the idea"

What term would you use?

A closeup of an original aztec map from around the 16 century. Love the usage of images. Notices all the seated folks to the lower left with small icons over the shoulder indicating some function or title.
