Of the 10,000 species of birds inhabiting our planet, 20% live in Colombia and hardly a month passes that are discovered between three and ten new species. The birds not only sing, they also speak .... they tell us about the health of forests and ecosystems in general.Take care is paramount !!! Travel birding in: www.odretours.com

The Valley's Black-bellied Whistling Ducks are very much in evidence with their nesting antics right now - burrowing into dead palm fronds, checking out holes, standing on roofs and wires, chattering chattering chattering. Bathing shot by Steve Sinclair.

Pyrrhuloxia (a word hard to pronounce, spell, AND type!) getting a drink at the Santa Clara Ranch - one of the sites visited by the RGVBF's pre-Fest photography safari trip. Nice pic by Steve Sinclair.

It's the 20th anniversary, after all! And this year's artwork? Buff-bellied Humingbird by FP Tony Bennett (the artist for the 1st year, 10th year, and now the 20th year!). Registrations will open in a few weeks - stay tuned! http://www.rgvbf.org/

Photographers! There's a few seats left on the RGVBF's two photography offerings: Ruth Hoyt's Photo Ops (featuring private ranches with waterholes and blinds) and Larry Ditto's Workshop (featuring the birdiest US NWR). And don't forget the Extreme Raptors Photoshoot on Thursday morning 8 Nov. A great opportunity for natural perch and flight shots, with guidance from Jonathan Wood himself. www.rgvbf.org
