An IOSH survey of 500 construction workers supports the case for raising better asbestos awareness and better worker training. The survey found that while the majority of construction workers knew about the risks from asbestos, a third of respondents have never checked the asbestos register before starting work on a new site – with nearly half of those not even aware that there is a register. Almost one in five respondents said if they discovered asbestos, they would not be clear about what to do. You can read the survey conclusions here

The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) has launched a Dangerous Substances e-tool as part of its 2018-19 Healthy Workplaces campaign.

It aims to provide tailored and easy-to-understand background and good practice information, for example on risks, labelling, legislation, prevention measures and much more. The e-tool generates a report related to individual business situations on the management of dangerous substances, including recommendations for improvement.

With a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises and companies without specific knowledge of dangerous substances, the interactive web-based guide provides tailored and easy-to-understand background and good practice information on risks, labelling, legislation, prevention measures and much more.

The e-tool is available in English and country versions will follow later in the year, says the Agency. The tool can be found here http://bit.ly/2LCvxFn
