Ron Martin has been a vital member of the News 8 team since 1983. He rose through the ranks to become its main weeknight news anchor in 2000, co-anchoring "News 8 at 5" and the Emmy award winning "News 8 at 6" with Kim Lemon, and "News 8 at 11" with Janelle Stelson.
Ron began his career in broadcast journalism as a desk assistant for NBC News in the nation's capital. After graduating from Howard University with a bachelor of arts degree in communications, he returned home to the Susquehanna Valley and became a reporter for WSBA Radio in York. Ron then joined WHP-TV as a reporter and fill-in anchor. A few years later, Ron became a member of the NewsCenter 8 team, initially working out of WGAL's Harrisburg newsroom. He then returned to his hometown to oversee coverage out of the newly opened York newsroom. While continuing his job as a reporter, Ron became a weekend anchor and then assumed a weeknight anchor position.
Born in York, Ron has won many awards for his achievements in the field of broadcast journalism. He has also been honored for his contributions to the community. In 2002, he was inducted into the William Penn Senior High School Hall of Fame. Among other organizations recognizing him: the Lancaster Urban League, the Pilot Club of York, the Crispus Attucks Association of York and the school districts of York and Harrisburg. The state of Pennsylvania and the cities of York and Harrisburg have all honored Ron with proclamations for his community contributions.
Ron is the proud father of 3 children. He and his wife Millie live in York. An avid golfer and tennis player, Ron is also a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
