Ronnie Montrose passes at 64

It is with a heavy heart that I comment on the passing of Ronnie Montrose who left us too soon on Saturday 3/3/12.

Ronnie Montrose was a genius on the fret board and a major influence to thousands if not millions of guitarists throughout his 4 decade career including myself. From Edgar Winter to Van Morrison to his self titled band "Montrose" which included a very young +Sammy Hagar to Gamma as well as several solo albums Ronnie always broke the barriers of what could be done on the guitar.

I'm kicking myself now because I had the chance to see him at a small club in Chicago in October but wasn't able to make the show.

He was also a great guy personally. The attached photo is one that I received from him back in 1989. I had written him a letter (remember when we did that) expressing how much I enjoyed his current album "The Speed of Sound."

At the time I thought that he'd receive it and toss it aside. But to my surprise, he did read it and sent me this autographed pic and two tickets to a show he was gonna play at the now defunct Biddy Mulligan's in Chicago that summer. It was an awesome show full of energy and virtuosity and one that I will always remember.

Ronnie had been battling prostate cancer for the past few years and even though he thought he had beat it, apparently the big "C" had other intentions.

You will be missed Ronnie! R.I.P.

I'm so excited that the day of the Raspberry Pi has finally come! Its sad that I have to wait to save up the $35 to get it, but it looks like its gonna be tough to get any of the first run boards anyway.

This reminds me of the days that you could go to a Radio Shack and actually go get parts to build something useful. I've already got a custom case planed out in my head utilizing an external drive case I have laying around.

While the opportunities for the educational market are enormous, I just want to get me hands on one to play!
Raspberry Pi, the credit-card sized computers running Linux, are finally available for purchase. For now, only Model B, which costs $35 is on sale and the number of available units is limited to 10.000, so if you want one, hurry! Also, today's sales are limited to one per customer but you should be able to buy as many as you want in about a month or so. For those not familiar with Raspberry Pi, here are the system specs: CPU ARM1176JZF-S 700 MHz ...

This is a really fascinating project that I hope takes hold. Unfortunately I don't have a netbook/spare laptop to test.

I wonder what Android x86 means to the future of ChromeOS...
Android-x86 is a project that provides Android support for x86, making it easy to install it on netbooks or laptops. You can use it like any other Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich device: install applications from the Android Market, add widgets and so on. The Android x86 team has released Android x86 4.0 RC1, based on Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and features: Support Multi-touch, Wifi, Audio, Bluetooth, G-sensor and Camera. OpenGL hardware ...

Cool. The new version of VLC (2.0) allows you to add it's controls to the Ubuntu Sound Menu.

Just follow this simple process and you'll have native control functions right from the Global Menu Bar!
The latest VLC 2.0 got support for MPRIS v2, meaning it can make use of the Ubuntu Sound Menu or other docks / extensions that support it (like the GNOME Shell Mediaplayer extension): But the MPRIS v2 Dbus interface is not enabled by default in VLC 2.0, so here's how to enable it: in VLC go to Tools > Preferences, select "All" under "Show settings" (bottom left), then navigate to Interface > Control Interface and check the box next to "D-Bus cont...

Everyone knows I'm a true-blue Apple fanatic, but I have to admit that these Siri vs Google Voice Actions videos produced by Motorola are pretty impressive.

I don't know why Google does't promote Voice Actions more than they currently do. To me its an almost forgotten feature that really should be more in the spotlight when comparing the iPhone to Android powered phones...
The ongoing battle of what Android and iOS can or can’t do (or which does it better) continues. We have heard all the arguments, but all of that bickering will continue as long as we are fans of opposing products. Right now, one of Apple fans’ biggest prides is Siri, Apple’s ultimate voice command service. But is this better than Android Voice Actions? Voice Actions is available for all Android 2.1+ devices. It is a great service, but it is not o...

Thanks for shring this +Lisa Bimmerz.

Definitely and eye opener! The minute I saw this I tossed out any bones I had laying around the house. Jack doesn't chew them a lot, but every once in awhile he does so there's no reason to take a chance.

Saw this on my local news last night, this IS a must watch for ALL dog owners!

The best Android browser get even better by adding native voice control in the browser!

Downloading the update as we speak!
The best third-party browser for Android just got a little better. Taking a cue from Ice Cream Sandwich itself, the latest Dolphin Browser update adds a host of voice control features all rolled into a system called Sonar. Far from just translating your voice into text (which you could already do by combining the standard Android keyboard with any text field) Sonar adds browser-specific commands to its interface, allowing for more precise touch-f...

Holy smokes! That's wild!

Stare at the colored dots on this girl’s nose for 30 seconds, then quickly look at a white wall or ceiling (or anything pure white) and start blinking rapidly. Congratulations, you just processed a negative with your brain! A question for you GSF, how is this possible?

Introduction
I bring documentation to the masses.

I love the printing business. I've been doing it all my life and am very good at what I do. I'm proud of my past accomplishments and have plenty of magic left in me.

Over the years I have commanded several initiatives to bring "paper and ink" printing back to its former glory and have also embraced the advances in digital reproduction technology, making it low cost to the consumer while being profitable to my organizations.

While I'm currently seeking employment in the Central Florida and/or Chicagoland area in the technology/I.T./printing fields (I wear many hats) I am also realizing my dream of working for myself.

I specialize in the typesetting/editing of static and variable documents. I also prepare documents for traditional print and ebook distribution. Do you have a print project and don't have a printer? I'll find a cost effective solution and manage your project for you.

Visit Document Intelligence for all your document needs.
