Here are some of their results.. • Roughly 85 million dogs are overweight. • The average cost of veterinary care for a diabetic dog or cat in 2001 was over $900. • Pet insurance claims for diabetes increased by 253% in 2011 alone. • Pet insurance claims for heart disease rose by 32%, while claims for arthritis increased by 348%.
