I watched Surviving R. Kelly on Lifetime, and it can't seem to leave my mind. I've raised three daughters who are confident and know their worth. Because I've raised daughters, I've seen girls who will do anything for attention - especially male attention. This clouded judgment leads them down foolish paths.

I've lived long enough to see the broad spectrum of human behavior; this documentary was a sobering reminder that not everyone is well-intentioned. Today, I want every young lady to know her worth. If you're at an age where you can make decisions for yourself, here's what I want you to know for yourself. Read the rest on the blog.

Notes From My Daughter are occasional notes from my second daughter. I never know what to expect when she writes but I am always blown away. Did this child come from me? Read on

It’s the beginning of a new year, and many of us are reflecting. There's wisdom in reflection. 2018 has felt like one of the longest years ever which got me to thinking, "what makes time meaningful?"

When a Woman Knows Her Worth.
Ancient Israel was a society in which women had limited power. For example, Caleb’s daughter, Achsah, was given to her cousin, Othniel, in marriage as a conqueror’s reward. The scripture doesn’t indicate what prompted her to ask, but she went to Caleb, her father, and asked for a land with springs. She specifically said “give me also,” and Caleb gave her the upper and nether springs. Achsah probably knew of the promise of land to Caleb and his descendants. In spite of the limits within her culture, she confidently made this request of her father.

There was nothing wrong with asking; so she asked and got what she requested and then some. It would seem that the Bible celebrates her “pushiness” since this story is recorded again in Joshua 15:16-19. You too can boldly ask your Heavenly Father to “give me also.” His response may exceed your expectations.

PRAY
Lord, I know you made me in your image. Please help me to remember my worth in light of your creation and may it emboldened me to ask for what is available to me. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray. Amen.

REFLECT
Do you know your worth in God’s eyes?

I received this prayer for Christmas which I want to share with you. Though we look forward to what the holiday represents they are many who are not peaceful or joyous. I wish peace and joy for you because it's available Christmas and every day.

Jesus, I pray that You would usher in peace in unstable family situations. Give wisdom about when to create boundaries and when to embrace an estranged relative. Go before. Walk beside. Bring peace in turmoil. For those who have lost loved ones this year, Christmas can be very painful. Would You shoulder any grief that each reader carries today? Would you provide each person and their families? I pray for friendships where loneliness exists. I pray for peace where chaos and burnout reign. For those feeling the weight of shame and fear, I pray for amazing relief. Thank you that You created each person and You have deep affection for them. OH HOW YOU LOVE us! Your love for us is deep, wide, long and high. Replace the negative, fearful thoughts with thoughts of belief and faith. Reverse depression. Relieve anxiety. Reframe past memories. Repurpose pain for your kingdom. Revitalize relationships with You during this season. But mostly, Jesus, please be near. We want to celebrate You truly during this month--not commercialism, not hype, not sentimentality--but the reality of the God of the Universe loving us all enough to stoop to earth and live with us here. We are utterly grateful. Amen.

I had the opportunity to see the play Come From Away. I was blown away; pleasantly surprised.
After 9/11 several planes were diverted to this small town in NewFoundland. Everyone came from away; everyone was anxious. But once they heard Philippians 4:6 they knew that they could be anxious for nothing... and the kindness of humanity won out!
So we always have the opportunity to live out Christ like love.

Some great parenting advice I shared for Power of Families. As a mother of 4 - there's lots of opportunities to mess things up. But God, is gracious. Parenting has taught me so much.

[NEW POST]There will always be people who are envious of you, for reasons that may never make sense to you. Envy believes that someone has something you cannot have. It is a feeling of discontentment or resentment because of another's success, advantage or superiority, real or perceived.
