Be honest, really? A high-ranking Canadian politician has advised Canadians to be honest about their pot use when they show up at the U.S. border, even if that means being turned away. Len Saunders, an immigration lawyer based out of Blaine, Wash. said he “couldn’t believe” Holland’s comments. “… you’re not just going to be denied entry, but you’re going to be barred for life,” Saunders said.

Will University and college campuses across B.C. need to re-evaluate their smoking policies because of the legalization of pot? The degree of restriction when it comes to smoking on campus varies greatly on B.C. campuses. Emily Carr and Trinity Western University are the only institutions in the province that have a completely smoke-free campus, UBC and University of Victoria restrict smoking to designated smoking areas, and BCIT and SFU only ask smokers to keep a certain distance from entrances, windows and covered walkways.

Did you know that under new federal rules, landlords don't have the right to know a tenant is growing marijuana in their home? Patients can grow different amounts depending on their individual prescriptions. Someone with a three-gram-per-day licence may grow up to 15 indoor plants, for example.

Will Canada's marijuana supply be ready for #legalization? According to activist and dispensary director Dana Larsen, the amount of quality marijuana available from licensed suppliers is far too low to meet current demands, not to mention the demands of a legal recreational market. Larsen says that unless the new pot regime includes the current retailers and producers, it's going to be a very bumpy start next summer.

Can cannabis fight cancer? Research conducted at St. George’s University of London, found the two most common cannabinoids in marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), weakened the ferocity of cancer cells and made them more susceptible to radiation treatment.

In about ten months, a loophole will open in some of Canada’s smoking laws which will annoy some and delight others. The underlying assumption, which is that smoking marijuana doesn’t have to be dealt with in smoking laws because it’s illegal anyway, is about to be out of date. And without changes, there will be very few restrictions on where and when someone could smoke pot.
