Green chile ale is a fan favorite. I'm a fan.

The entire operation--inside at the bar, inside at dining tables, and outside on the patio--reminded me of an ant colony, each worker pulling his weight and believing in the end product. That alone should tell you why Flat Branch has been at the forefront of breweries and dining in Columbia since its debut in 1994. #AlGPics  #Foodie #FlatBranchPub&Breweing #ColumbiaMO

The humble conjunction taking the place of a comma between items in a list adds distinction and emphasis to each descriptor. Each descriptive word has more weight as an item unto itself, and that is by design.
This is no sob story. While you will read words laced with bitterness and killing anger and vicious envy, words of violence and sadness and, hopefully, dark humor, you will not read much whining. Not on her part, certainly, b...

And that is the power of words that matter. They conjure an entire universe, a philosophy, and a worldview. They carry us to heights and valleys, to exhilaration and exquisite sorrow. #AlGPics  #Writing #Poetry

Mary Onawa Meier, An Eldon Portrait Artist
Mary Onawa Meier’s mother gave her a Lakota middle name meaning watchful to life’s dangers or wide awake. After meeting Mary and her dog Susie, I think the name prophesied Mary’s future. Mary is an artist , wide awake to lines, angles, light, and shadow. He...

Low Comedy
Last week, I mentioned low comedy --just one of several levels of comedy . Knowing them provides insight into why we laugh; knowing them also helps writers use them. Low comedy tends to be physical comedy or comedy related to bodily functions . Our body’s o...

A good option for those who love the community but can no longer manage all the demands of a lake home.

The Teichmeiers bring more than two decades of experience in health care. Terry is a chiropractor, and Cherie a dental hygienist. In those decades, they discovered how much they enjoy learning from and listening to senior citizens so opening a business that serves seniors was a natural for them. #AlGPics  #CamdentonMO

Absurb, farcical notions are often a part of low comedies. Farce also includes characters who lack fashion sense.

We laugh at those who defy, neglect, and ignore social norms.
Last week’s post about Silicon Valley referenced social circles or norms as instruments of comedy. This week’s post continues to explain how those instruments serve comedy. When a character defies, neglects, or ignores soc...

Below is my review from several months ago. Today a different crew, Brian Tibbals and Timothy Rodgers, completed the year's work agreed to with an annual contract. They were conscientious and thorough. I'm fortunate to have had two different crews, both of which were excellent. We paid for a contract so that Stanley Steemer (SS) would clean our carpets for a full year and on the first visit, our ceramic tile. We decided upon SS after using a competitor several times and comparing the work to SS's. At first, we thought we'd made a grave mistake. The grout was virtually untouched, the crew rushed, one crew member moved a piece of exercise equipment onto damp carpet--against instructions--and left a stain, and one of the two crew members had to be instructed to protect my furniture from the now damp carpet. Mr. Stanley, in Kansas City, after several unsuccessful attempts to correct the problems locally, resolved our issues and the job was redone, completed correctly. Our next two carpet cleanings were just average; we decided never to pay for a year's contract again as the savings are marginal and the service less than spectacular. One problem we had was the crews rushed through the job so for the next to last cleaning, I asked for a senior crew and was promised one. Little did I know that scheduling has been centralized in Kansas City and that promises made there do not trickle down to local crews. Worse, the crews spend as much time driving long distances from house to house as they do cleaning because long-distance schedulers, unfamiliar with the areas, send them hither and yon to fill a 12+ hour day. When the crew arrived after 6 p.m., I asked how much experience they had; it could not be considered "senior" unless turnover at SS is extremely high. I told them I'd been dissatisfied and that I expected them to do an excellent job in spite of the late hour on a Friday. If they could not, I was willing to send them on their way and reschedule. They put in the time and delivered! These guys, Mr. Selby and Mr. Morris, were conscientious and careful. Instead of 40-45 minutes and out the door, they worked my 5 rooms and a couch until they were clean. I will request them again for my last contract cleaning. SS should know that these two represent the company very well.
