Drew Gurian is a New York City based music and editorial photographer who was Joe McNally's First Assistant and right-hand from 2008-2013. While working for Joe, he logged well over 400K airline miles around the world, assisted with tons of client shoots, workshops and conferences around the world, working with tens of thousands of people.
In his own professional work, Drew has photographed for musicians, music festivals, wire services, editorial publications and ad agencies. He has shot over 300 artists on-stage in the past 15 years and has taken advantage of opportunities to photograph musicians off-stage and on tour. He also thoroughly enjoys shooting portraits of everyday people, both in-studio and on-location.
In 2010 Drew began speaking publicly at conferences, in webinars, and teaching workshops about his own approach to photography, as well as his time working with Joe. Always enthusiastic to share knowledge, his professional openness and mentoring style has been recognized by colleagues and the photo community, and has made him an valuable asset to understanding photography from a behind-the-scenes perspective.
Drew Gurian holds a BFA from Kutztown University, and has been published in PDN, Billboard, Rolling Stone, Runner's World, USA Today, and in numerous international publications as a contracted photographer for the Associated Press. He also received a photo credit in the July 2010 issue of National Geographic Magazine.
